say NO to Boozer!
Ok guys, so we all know the Carlos Boozer scenario. Basically im not concerned with what was ethical and what wasnt. Its done, its over who cares who was right and wrong, now its time to deal with our future. With free agents being signed left right and center time is running out.
Cleveland is being pressured to deal our center big Z in a matter of a week to clear up space to get boozer, which is something im totally against and will explain why. Firstly, everyone knows if we are dealing to get more capspace to match boozers offersheet to utah, that we have 14 days to do that in. They KNOW we are desperate. That will lead to us getting some really crappy deals for Z and basically give him away for free.
There has been speculation of Big Z going to New York recently, basically for kurt thomas and chum change. See Story
But why would we do this, personally i dont want a starting front court of an aging thomas and a promising boozer. Theres just so many reasons i think we should keep Z at all costs.
1) hes a center, full stop. Hes legit size 7'2 and has tremendous offensive skills. Hes finally healthy, and rebounding well too. When hes on we are just such a different team. As important as boozer is to our team, i think replacing big Z is a much harder task. yes hes 29 yes theres questions about his health. But hes a big man, and he can pass out of double teams, i think we really do undervalue him
2) Do we really want boozer back after all the controversy? If we have to deal players to match boozers salary he will forever be known as the guy who made us a weaker team. The guy who set us back 2 years by being selfish. There will be such negetive vibes in the locker room from the fans and managers. I dont think it would be a healthy playing environment.
A better alternative would be to let Williams walk, and try to somehow catch a free agent with our MLE. The grizzlies said they would match any offer made to swift, hes been there for 4 years so they can offer swift much more than any other team.
Its dark day ahead for us, but i really think we should keep big z. Getting Carlos back is just spelling trouble. With a better bron, wags and z next year, if we sign a hustling pf and play him in tandem with battie at pf we should be ok. Silas wants bron to hit the boards harder this year, so he should help out quite a bit.
We'll really miss boozers energy down on the block, but i dont think we should match his contract at the expense of other team mates.

Get Boozer. At least give a shot. If it doest work trade his ***.
don't forget Z's contract is coming up and he is soon turning 30 or something he isn't the center of the future and he will ask for a crazy contract.

The Cavs should not trade Z in an effort to resign Boozer. I don't think that he is worth 11 mil per year. He's a good player and I love his effort but I just think resigning him to this much money is shortsighted and eventually it will be harmful to the team that made the signing.

If they do trade Z, would they be able to take on Kurt Thomas's contract and still resing Booz?

Yeh i think theres something in mutombos contract that can take him off the books, that will free up another 4.5 million. We'll have no shot blocking presence with a front court of boozer and thomas though. i'd rather big z and a free agent.

you wont want to meet Z's contract demands next summer. By not trading him you already have not been able to offer one good young player what he is worth.
Thats why he should have been shipped out of town like I said. And it should have been done already. You guys all told me we shouldnt trade him, just let him walk next summer.
If you dont trade him
then you guys will have let Boozer walk this summer
an Z the next. Nice!

Thats what alot of people have been saying, the problem with that is we can only offer him the MLE. The grizzlies have come out and said they will match any offer for swift im pretty sure.
I say offer him the MLE and hope to god the griz dont match.

Why do you say we wont want to? Tony battie will be off the books soon enough. This time around we can be alot smarter when it comes to big Z's contract.
Before he was injured we saw Z as the next sabonis. His potential was HUGE. Hes only been healthy 2 seasons, he hasnt exactly been a superstar but extreamly solid for us.
I think we can sign him to a lower contract than before because of his age and his injury history, but have added incentives in there for him to stay healthy and achieve certain numbers.
If hes a RFA we could just wait for someone to throw say 60 million at him for 6 years then match. We have bird rights with him. I think we'll match a contract for the guy, hes a big man, the dont come frequently, skilled ones that is.

get something for him just like orlando did for tmac
i said trade and add to your young core. and i go no support. the consesus was let him walk at the end of his deal. Well you let Boozer off a year early. And its obvious what he would command if you saw the foyle okur deals. So you actually subtacted...and IMO...made your team less of a future dynasty type team because you lost a future all-star.
makes cleveland an even less attractive destination for free agents in the future

Can the grizzlies still match? Didn't they use the MLE on Brian Cardianl?
They might not even want to, look at their payroll
