The Cleveland Plain-Dealer had a list of potential replacements. Some interesting names -- Vin Baker (whom Silas wanted last season), Keon Clark, Stro Swift, among others.

I don't think Clev is gonna make a huge trade to get a top-notch PF (but I've been wrong before!!!), so here are a couple realistic possiblities.

First- Diop moves to PF. Many have said that we won't really miss Boozer's scoring, we need to replace his rebounding and get better defensively at the PF. 'Nuff said.... that is what Diop can bring.

Second- Slava Medvadenko of the Lakers is an unrestricted FA. He's got the size, and decent shooting. We could use the MLE to sign him....

Third- Marcus Fizer I think is also unrestricted FA.

Fourth- I think our best trading chip (without severly hurting the squad) is Wagner. Wagner for Melvin Ely and Theron Smith works cap-wise. Ely is still a project, but he's got the size.

Fifth- (this is a joke folks), um... Chris Mihm is a restricted FA... never thought we'd (I'd) miss him...lol

I'm watching the Cavs summer league game right now and I really like this guy Lonnie Jones. 7-0, agile, long, runs the floor, blocking everything, good rebounder, looks like a good player all-around. He's going to make some team, why not the Cavs?

This guy's got that great second jump where he can get right back up in the air more quickly than the defender expects.

Where/how are you watching it?

Yeah... I think right about now Pax and Gund are hoping some negligible PF falls from the skies into their laps!

He graduated from Ball St in 2002, made New Jersey's training camp in 2002. He's the all time block leader for Ball St and the Mid-America Conference.

He ain't a scorer, and isn't much of a rebounder either... (sounds like the Buckeyes Ken Johnson of a few years ago)... all blocks, occasionally will get you 10 pts.

Lonnie's Sr yr stats at Ball St: 7.8pts, 5.4 rbs, 2.6 blks... these numbers were just about identical for his Jr and Soph yrs too.

The game was on NBA TV. He looked like a good rebounder tonight. I liked what he was doing overall and Paul Silas and Jeff McInnis both commented that they were impressed with him too. I think he's got a shot.

You can probably get Chris Crawford for cheap... No joke, i'm serious, get Crawford.

Maybe send Ira Newble back to them or something. Or maybe any other borderline role players like Eric Williams, Battie, or Brown. Just have to make sure the salaries work somehow.

Before anybody starts laughing, Crawford is actually not a bad player. After Reef was traded to Portland he was tearing up the league, putting up something like 20/10 on a nightly basis. He's a hungry, hard-working player who wants a chance to prove that he can play in this league. Cavs should definitely look into it. Worst that happens is he'll end up on the bench, and we don't lose or gain anything.

Andre Brown off your summer league team. Poor man's Ben Wallace.

As a poster said before, I don't think FIzer would be a bad idea. He put up some nice stats when he was given a chance over the last couple of years, and he would definitely come cheap. Best yet, he is an unrestricted free agent thanks to the Bobcats takign him in the expansion draft. He is a little undersized, but so was Boozer? Why not take a shot? At the very least he will board and score some points, but at 1/10th the price of Boozer.

Hurt? I dunno any past injuries he's had. All I know is he's always had to play behind Reef and Henderson(or Ratliff and Mohammed). But after Reef was traded from ATL to POR, he got the nod to start, and that's how I noticed him. It's hard not to notice a guy who is putting big numbers all of a sudden.

His ppg for the season ended up being over 10ppg, and that's from only starting for less than half the season. That should tell you something.

His profile
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/chris_....html?nav=page

his first game after the departure of Reef(and Rasheed) he scores 21pts on .500 shooting
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/chris_....html?nav=page

next game he had 19 and 6
http://www.nba.com/games/20040222/ATLHOU/boxscore.html
19 and 2
http://www.nba.com/games/20040224/PHIATL/boxscore.html
13 and 5 against the two WALLACES?? no way
http://www.nba.com/games/20040227/ATLDET/boxscore.html
27 and 9
http://www.nba.com/games/20040228/ORLATL/boxscore.html

you get the idea. just go to the hawks website and look at the boxscore after feb 20 and you'll see his decent, if not impressive stats.

Andre Brown's FT shooting is atrocious and his offensive skills are so bad, he would be a terrible starting PF in the NBA. He doesn't play better D than Boozer.

If anyone from summer league makes the team, it will be Lonnie Jones. He's going to be in training camp. His defense has been changing games.

1- Snow, McInnis
2- Jackson, Pavlovic, Wagner
3- James, Newble
4- Battie, ???
5- Z, Diop

Anyone else see a hole?

Battie is probably more a center, but he's a small center, so he would seem to be the starter at PF unless things change.

They've also got Eric Williams who they might be able to do a sign and trade with and their MLE.

An offer to Stromile Swift would probably be matched by Memphis, so that's probably out of the question. Out of the FA PFs and Cs, the best guys left are probably centers, but that's ok, they could slide Battie over to the 4. Offer to split the MLE between Zelko Rebraca and Keon Clark, who seems to be kind of a sleeper out there.

4- Clark, Battie
5- Z, Rebraca, Diop

Yeah, that works
