Cavs being sold?
They're saying on ESPN radio that Gordon Gund is selling the Cavs to some guy.
What effect is new ownership going to have on the short term future of the Cavaliers? Hopefully a good one... maybe a new owner will help the Cavs move forward.

From what I heard, the Cavs are being "sold" for 375 million dollars to a man from Michigan.

lol... don't we all wish! Or a partnership with Drew Carey and Randy Lerner and/or any other mega-millionaires who we are pretty sure will keep the team here....

Oy, this could be disastrous news. 9 times out of 10, it takes years for a franchise to yield positive team results when they're selling to highest bidders. Unless they sell to someone within the family, LeBron will not be a Cav past his RFA year, if history has taught us anything about selling franchises. Just look at what high bidder selling did to the Nets. Ouch.

Maybe but our situation is completely different the Nets. The Cavs have good attendance, a marketable superstar, and a lease they can't back out for the next 15 years or so. Ratner bought the NEts with specific idea of moving them and making a ton of money with a NY team. Every one knew that, hence the firesale of players
Sure the owner could try to make money by being cheap ala Donald Sterling but Gund didn't have the biggest pockets. But, look at John Henry with the Red Sox or Dallas with Cuban, it's not just a one way street. We have a strong talent base and an owner would be less scared to spend cash on this team with Lebron IMO

Everything is relative. They maybe billionaires but a lot of their net worth is in the Cavs and the other team that they sold so although loaded (far more money then I can comprehend really) they don't have as much capital as other owners in the league who have deeper outside sources of revenue/cash

I wonder how much the Carlos Boozer situation played into his decision to get out of the game now?

That probably was what pushed him to consider it.
Getting hoodwinked by Loozer may have signaled to him that loyalty and honesty are no longer a fundamental part of business in sports. (obviously a utopian view of sports business where everyone is honest isn't reality, but Gund tended to operate under that tenet at least in his public image IMO)

Read the above posts: the Cavs have signed a lease for 15-20 at the Gund. It would be VERY VERY expensive to move this team in the foreseeble future and there would be a ton of legal fights
The concerns are more about whether the new owners will be tightwad billionaires (i.e. Donald Sterling) or, hopefully, my NBA team is the ultimate man's toy billionaires (Paul Allen, Mark Cuban).

Apparently to break the lease and pay the NBA fees associated with relocation that would be an additional 80 MILLION just to move the team. Don't see this happening since the Cavs are going to be profitable for awhile with Lebron
