Cleveland at Utah (1/15/04)

The loss to the Kobe-less Lakers was not the way Cleveland envisioned starting their West Coast swing. Considering the team is coming off a loss and will finally get a crack at Carlos Boozer, coming out flat for this game will be inexcusable. The team will have a day off to rest up, prep and be ready to roll. Recent reports claim Boozer is inviting his ex-mates to see his mansion but after coming off a Lakers loss, I doubt the Cavaliers will be taking Boozer up on his offer. With AK-47 having practiced and perhaps even being expected to play (albeit brief mnutes), Silas and co. need to prepare themselves for a full-strength Jazz team.
Indeed.

A loss to Utah and Boozer would be icing on the cake after losing to the Lakers w/o Kobe. This after having to go into over time against Charlotte.
I thought the addition of Anderson into the rotation really turned the corner for this team but I'm not quite so sure now

Man I know exactly how you feel. Watching this Cavs team is tough because one night they look like contenders and then all the sudden they drop to the level of their competition. It's tough to gage where we really are.
We don't bring it defensively consistently, Silas still doesn't stick with consistent rotations and makes poor in-game adjustments, our bench was finally starting to pick it up but you still don't know what effort your gonna get each game.
If we can't beat a team without their best player when Lebron drops 28 points 13 rebounds and 9 assists, the reality might be that outside of LBJ, our squad is not very good.

Halftime
Cavaliers - 29
Jazz - 42
Cleveland is lucky not to be down further (13 points is a nice big hole but the Cavs should be down by 20 right now). Boozer is playing well and the Jazz are doing some doubling down low. In the first quarter, the Cavaliers couldn't buy an outside shot.

End of 3rd
Cavaliers - 53
Jazz - 57
Cleveland went to the zone and had some success with it (plus the Jazz experienced a drought).

Big Z had foul trouble early in the game.
The Cavaliers took their first lead of the game at 65-63 (then went on to hit the foul shot to go up by 3). Ever since the Cavaliers used the zone defense in the 3rd quarter, they have been able to get a few defensive stops. Whenever the Jazz can penetrate on the zone, they do better. But when they pass the ball and give up their dribbles quickly, they suffer.

Gooden some great interior D.
Lebron is one hell of a clutch player. He completely picked up his game in the second half
McInnis also with some good shooting in the fourth

Final
Boxscore
Cavaliers - 84
Jazz - 71
As poorly as the Cavaliers played in the first half, the Jazz played that badly in the second. I guess if you are going to struggle, you'd rather struggle early so you could at least have hopes of redeeming yourself later.
Anderson gobbled up rebounds, Bron was clutch and the team won despite so-so nights from 2 starters (Z and Gooden).

While Boozer ended up with 15 reb once they brought in Varejao both Gooden and Z picked it up on the boards. Held Booz to only 7 over the final 3 quarters.

Wow... 14 boards in 26 minutes... Varejao is really a monster on the boards... He actually played more than Gooden! If he would be more agressive he could actually start by the end of the season...
I'm impressed as i never thought i would be with him...
