Cleveland at New Jersey (2/27/05)

@

10:00 am PT, 1:00 pm ET

After being crushed and dominated on national television by the Pacers, the struggling Cavaliers head to Jersey to face Jason Kidd and Vince Carter. Being the subpar road team Cleveland is, this game can be lost too if transition defense continues to haunt the Cavaliers. Will Silas bench McInnis for poor defense if he plays against the Nets like he did against the Pacers? Will Eric Snow continue to airball multiple jumpshots in this game too? Will Silas continue to play Harris ahead of Pavlovic in terms of priority off the bench? In this afternoon game, we’ll get answers.

Will Cleveland bounce back?

Re: Cleveland at New Jersey (2/27/05)

LOL nice game thread Remy.

We'll probably lose this game, especially when you consider they beat us earlier in the season in NJ with Jason Kidd hobbled and without Vince Carter.
Who knows, maybe the blowout will wake this team up and help to develop a killer instinct we're sorely lacking.

I don't get the love for Harris from the coaching staff. He has not shown me anything at all this year and he still gets minutes. Play Sasha atleast the dude tries on D and has some speed on the break

Nothing. The Nets are a good team on some days, bad teams on other days.

You've just happened to run into the team that won against the Pistons.

Tomorrow we could play like the team that just had problems beating the Bobcats... (Yes the Nets won at the end).

Re: Cleveland at New Jersey (2/27/05)

Cleveland got down early and it seemed like the game would no longer be competitive. A few times the lead was cut, it would go back to 20. Towards the end of the game, Cleveland had a chance and it came down to a few possessions. But at those key moments, things like sloppy passing and ball handling killed the team. Turnovers were killers. The only thing Cleveland did real well the entire game was rebounding. Silas had a short tolerance for Gooden making a few bad passes and seeming lost in the game. The problem is you can see the effect it has on him. Drew’s head is often sunk down, his aura weak and his posture failing. It should be of no surprise that Jersey used the zone and it halted the Cavaliers’ offense for a good while. Execution was a problem all night long.

Something has to give at this point. To outsiders, nothing appears wrong with the team but to those who have been watching these guys all season long, their quality of play has been declining. Even in recent games were Cleveland has won, they still look bad. Tempers are flaring, hope is lost and the team needs to regain its chemistry.

Boxscore: New Jersey 104, Cleveland 98

Re: Cleveland at New Jersey (2/27/05)

I just don't get these rotations. Sasha has played atleast as well as any other SG(admittely not saying much at all) this year and he gets stuck behind Harris after Newble comes back. Drew gonna make some mistakes but let the kid play some as I just can't stand Tractor.

Anyways I think the loss of Anderson has really effected the bench - no ammo or hustle. Also teams have been able to scout the Cavs know for a half a year. It's obviuos we can't shoot and the zone is going to come out more and more

Re: Cleveland at New Jersey (2/27/05)

The Cavaliers had way too many turnovers (20-11). In addition the refs were allowing the Nets to be physical against the Cavaliers and for some reason this always throws them out of their game (which is why I really don't see this team going very far in the playoffs). And lastly, the Cavs suck on the road. I can't explain it but this team just has no energy when they play away from home. Gooden was awful, this was a time that we desperately needed Varejao for his energy.

Re: Cleveland at New Jersey (2/27/05)

At the end you guys really came back. A few of the smaller things really hurt. I don't have the chance to watch LeBron much but does he pick up alot of offensive fouls? Or was just Kidd the smart vet at the point? When Kidd had that turnover and stole the ball right back. With time I would only imagine the Cavs getting better. If you guys resign Z at a reasonable rate, and if he can prove he can stay healthy beyond his contract year he will be a good center. I remember watching him in the past and now, he is hardly the same player. Of his 10 offensive boards, I remember several players where he had at least 2 each time. Where his positioning, boxing out Collins (there was a push, Collins was under the basket) allowed him to keep going up... that is what Smart vets do / get away with against the younger guys in the league.
