Donyell Marshall should start

At first I thought it would be better for Donyell Marshall to come off the bench, however the more I thought about it the more I belive he should start for you guys. Here is why.

1. Donyell is at the point in his career where he tends to float to the perimeter and not bang inside. Most productive bench players are high energy guys who can create there own shot.

2. Donyell has a deadly three point shot. With slashers like Larry Hughes and Lebron James and Big Z down low it would make better use of Marshall to start him. He would be more productive. Imagine kicking out to Saras and Marshall, this would be a nightmare for opposing teams.

3. Drew Gooden has 0 perimeter game (even though he thinks he does). Gooden would be better suited coming off the bench, he would dominate against many other bench post player and if used right could still get his minutes.

4. Donyell is a pretty decent passer for a PF and would not be the stop gap that Gooden is when running an offense.

What do you guys think?

Re: Donyell Marshall should start

I think Gooden would be useless on the bench. At least Donyell won't pout on the bench.

You can't give into Gooden just because he will cry, If it becomes a problem trade him. He is a 14 and 9 PF who has an expiring contract. That will fetch something on the market.

As far as Gooden im sure he can find a home. He is a young PF who averages 14 and 9 and he is expiring. But my point is that Marshall would be better starting. Can anyone give reasons why Gooden should start over Marshall?

Heck the only reason I thought Drew should start over Verejao, was because Drew's ego is too easily bruised to come off the bench.

My concern though with starting marshal at pf is that at his age, his minutes need to be monitored so the Cavs can get him to the playoffs healthy. Marshall is kind of the Cavs Robert Horry, I think.

This is Drew Goodens 3rd team that he has been with. I dont think anybody wants him now. For Marshall I think that he could hit threes off the bench for us

Re: Donyell Marshall should start

Marshall is better then Gooden........ he can expand the court....... if he posts up near the 3 point line ur gonna have to put a body on him.. thats gonna give Hughes/James a better chance to drive to them hoop without the paint being crowded....

Re: Donyell Marshall should start

Marshall is not better than Gooden. Marshall is soft as a marshmallow. Gooden is a much tougher rebounder than he is and in fact our starters need a rebounder more than they need a perimeter pf. I guess it kinda depends on who ends up playing the point, but I don't think that Marshall should start.

Yoy have no idea what your talking about Marshall is great rebouder, the guy averaged about 7rbg last season coming off the bench. A Lebron/Marshall pick and pop (which Marshall loves to do) would be amazing.

Re: Donyell Marshall should start

I still contend that Gooden is a better and tougher rebounder. I agree that the two man game with LeBron (or Hughes) should be very good. But actually it was good with Z as well.

If we see the triangle offense at all next season (LBJ Hughes and Big Z could pull it off) then the better rebounder would be needed on the other post.

Re: Donyell Marshall should start

While I am not a big proponent of 48 minute stats they do show that both Gooden and Varejao (14.3 rebounds/48 minutes) are better rebounders than Marshall (12.5 rebounds/48 minutes).
