Marko or Saras ???
Who will it be, Jasikevicius or Jaric?
As most of you have probably already read, The Plain Dealer reported the Cavaliers will sign point guard Sarunas Jasikevicius to a contract within the next few days. This is something that has been expected for quite some time now. Jasikevicius is best friends with Zydrunas Ilgauskas and would be the leading candidate to start at point guard for the Cavs, something Jasikevicius clearly stated was a top priority prior to signing with an NBA team.
The Akron Beacon Journal on the other hand continues to stand by its story that Jaric is coming to town as the main point guard target and Jasikevicius would represent plan B. While a guest on More Sports with Les Levine, Journal Cavs beat writer Brian Windhorst said if the cap comes in higher than expected, Jaric is their guy, if it comes in lower or where originally expected, Jasikevicius is their guy.
So for the second day in a row, I ask this question: Who's right and who's wrong?
I think the News-Herald got it right by saying, ".... Point guard Marko Jaric was scheduled to visit Cleveland either tomorrow or Friday... It might not make sense now. It's unlikely the Cavaliers could sign the 6-7, 217-pound Jaric unless they carve out a lot of cap space."
Why bring Jaric in when the money to sign a player of his caliber is no longer available.
Marshall reportedly signed a four-year deal worth between $20 and $25 million. That would leave the Cavs with roughly $3 to $3.5 million left to spend. That's exactly what Jasikevicius was asking for to come to the states.
Jaric has three years of NBA experience under his belt and is considered to be a bit injury prone. His agent was looking for a contract in the five-year $40 million range. The Cavs had that, but not anymore.
The only scenario I could think of that would still bring Jaric to Cleveland would be a sign-and-trade, but even that doesn't make much sense. The player the Cavs would most likely get rid of would be Drew Gooden, and the Clippers have a logjam at forward.
Eric Snow would help tutor young up-and-coming point guard Shaun Livingston, but Snow's contract is so back loaded that no team would be dumb enough to take on that salary.
So one would think the logical choice would be Jasikevicius.
We'll just have to wait and see how all this unfolds.
Who would be your choice and why ???

Re: Marko or Saras ???
I would rather have Saras. But Marko is no slouch. My only question about him is injuries. When you throw Hughes, Jaric, and Z out on the floor together, what are the chances that all 3 make it through the season without a serious injury?

Re: Marko or Saras ???
Why in the world would he sign to a team where he probably wouldn't start and won't make the playoffs when he claims to want a starting job for a playoff contender.

Re: Marko or Saras ???
All that talk about other teams than CLE-is his agent's work-he is looking for better deals-that is agent' job. The only reason Saras is going to ther team-much bigger contract, but I don't see anybody ofering unproved in NBA 29 player more than 4-5 mil a year. And comparing Saras wuth Jaric- lithuanian outplayed serbian in every single game they played: two olimpics in the row, 2003 eurochamp and in the euroleague, the only Jaric advantage-that he has NBA experience ( not so great), and BTW-if Jaric is so good -why Clippers are not keeping him and why other teams are not chasing him, when experienced skilled FA PG's are so rear to find? I think CLE talk with Jaric-only demonstration to Saras agent-that lithuanian is not the only PG available. So, IMHO Saras is lock to Cleveland.

Again if Saras at 29 yo old wants to go to a team who just used the 3rd pick in the draft on a PG to fight for not only a starting spot but also a the 8th place in the brutal Western Conference fine by me.
Seems kind of dumb to me, Utah already has overpayed for two other unathelitic poor defender in Okur and Boozer.
In Cleveland he'll definitely get playing time and goes to a team that he fits well for him. But hey it's his choice but for a guy whose used to winning it's going to be tough in Utah.
