Cavs setting sights on Jaric

Quote:
The Cavaliers' search for a point guard is focusing.

Los Angeles Clippers restricted free agent Marko Jaric is scheduled to visit the team Thursday. If things go well, it is possible the Cavaliers could sign Jaric to an offer sheet Friday, the end of the NBA's moratorium period.

The 6-foot-7 Serbian averaged 9.9 points and 6.1 assists for the Clippers last season, his third year in the NBA. He was also one of the NBA's best in assist-to-turnover and steal-to-turnover ratios.

Jaric, 26, isn't known as a great shooter, but he has a reputation for being a solid defender.

He shot 42 percent from the field and 37 percent from 3-point range last season.

He missed 30 games with foot and hip injuries last season but was healthy by the end of the year.

``I think Cleveland is a perfect place for him,'' Jaric's agent, Bill Duffy, said Monday. ``He's a good decision-maker, a spot-up shooter, and an on-ball defender, and that's the last piece the Cavaliers need.''

Conceivably, Jaric would match up well. His size and quickness combined with the 6-5 Larry Hughes and the 6-8 LeBron James would give the Cavaliers one of the NBA's biggest and most agile backcourts. All three can handle the ball and play multiple positions, giving the team extreme flexibility.

Re: Cavs setting sights on Jaric

It's a good fit but he is a restricted free agent and thats where it becomes tricky.

Re: Cavs setting sights on Jaric

I doubt the Clips resign him. He would be a very good pickup for the Cavs. He's #2 on my list and not too far behind Sarunas. Tough, plays good D, decent shooter, good ballhandler. With him, Hughes, and the development of Jackson and Sasha, the Cavs perimeter D goes from one of the worst in the league to one of the best IMO. We'll have athletic players with size and lenght at all the perimeter spots.

We'd need Luke to break of some of his rust though if we go the Jaric route - need a good spot up shooter. Jaric has been a decent shooter in the NBA (not as good for some reason as I thought he was coming out of Serbia) but we need another consistent outside gun

Re: Cavs setting sights on Jaric

Wow, the Cavs would be so much more well rounded with Jaric manning the point (assuming he gets that left foot in order). Length, height, well above average quickness, solid defender, and a good shooter (don't let his 42% FG% fool you, he's a poor finisher, not a poor jump shooter).

I'd love this pickup almost as much as Earl Watson. Actually, maybe just as much.

Re: Cavs setting sights on Jaric

Jaric is a rare player. He can guard the point guard, shooting guard and small forward positions. He can handle the ball well enough to play point, although you'd want some other ball handlers on the court with him because loading him up with all the ball handling duties would be too much. He is a very good defender, does all the intangibles, can shoot very well, and is a tough son of a gun, doesn't take ****. The only problem with him is he is kind of injury prone. Behind Brand and Simmons, he was probably the Clippers 3rd best player 50 games into last season (when the Clips were around.500) before they fell apart.

If he can stay healthy, he is a good player. I've heard whispers of him having chronic foot problems though, which may affect his durability year in and year out.

I like Jaric. But I want Saras more. And I worry about Jaric's feet.

Now that Saras is aboard. Does Ferry still want Jaric? Finding a way to swap Snow with Jaric, would be pretty cool.

Re: Cavs setting sights on Jaric

Well Gooden is a goner so sign and trade is still a possiblity for Jaric. Or I have feeling Gooden is going to be packaged for a first rounder - need to find a young PG to groom

i dont get it with you americans...
just because guys like Larry Hughes or Marko Jaric get a lot of steals, you say they are solid/good/great defender..

Marko Jaric is a horrible defender, it's known from his time in europe and you can see it in the NBA as well...

Hughes/Sarunas/Jaric = BAD DEFENCE !!!

Re: Cavs setting sights on Jaric

Quote:
Point guard Sarunas Jasikevicius is expected to become the latest free agent to agree to a deal with the Cavaliers, according to several league sources.

News of a verbal agreement between the sides could be announced in a few days. Friday is the earliest free agents can sign with teams.

Jasikevicius will join fellow free agents, forward Donyell Marshall, guard Larry Hughes and center Zydrunas Ilgauskas to bolster a Cavs team that has made significant strides during the off-season.

Off the ball and help defense are also components of defense so you can't just say that they are bad overall defenders.

Marko Jaric

Will the Cavs be able to pick up Marko Jaric. I doubt they will be able to since they have already spent 150 million or so
