Good team win.

I like that when James struggles with his shot, he looks to contribute in other areas (8 assists/12rebs)

Nice to see the team close out strong.

^ It's semi-early but what exactly is our "magic number?" Is it at 14 right now with a chance to get to 13 based on tonight's results?

Re: Game #61: Raptors @ Cavs (3/7/2006)

Not sure, I know if Chicago loses to NJ tonight it drops significantly.

Pierce just busted a fading game winning 3 in the Wiz grill to win the game. It was seriously the most unbelievable game winner i've seen in my life. And he hit a 3 right before that to go up 1.

Indy loses
Wiz lose
Chicago lose?

Great night.

I actually want Chicago to beat NJ. I don't think that Chicago has much of any chance of catching us, but I want to have a better record that NJ and Washington.

I've noticed that too...Everytime his shot isn't dropping he's racking up more assists and grabbing more boards.

Graham twins happy

CLEVELAND - Graham twins happy back on court together.

Biologically, Joey Graham and Stephen Graham are fraternal twins. But from their faces to their temperaments to their basketball talent, they are as identical as could be.

Once, when they were kids growing up in Florida, Joey was coming into the house while Stephen was leaving it. As they passed each other, they realized they were singing the same song. In high school, they pulled all the traditional twin pranks with Stephen once taking, and failing, a test for Joey. One of the reasons Stephen grew his hair out and got his ear pierced was so he could be distinguished from his brother.

They were proud to be on the court together Tuesday, Joey with the Toronto Raptors and Stephen with the Cavaliers. As chance and the schedule would have it, Tuesday was the third time this season that the Graham twins were opponents after years of being together in high school, at the University of Central Florida and at Oklahoma State.

Joey, picked in the first round of June's draft, played against Stephen when he was on 10-day contracts with Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls.

“It was strange. We'd always been together and been on the same team,'' said Stephen, who was signed for the rest of the season by the Cavs after two 10-day deals last month.

Cavs coach Mike Brown joked that the team wouldn't provide tickets to Graham's mother, Rose, and family unless they promised to wear Cavs gear to the game on Tuesday. Of course, the Raptors could make the same demand tonight, when the teams have a rematch at Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

The family is just pleased both sons have started their NBA careers and even dream of the day when they could reprise their previous roles and play on the same team again.

“I'm glad he's found a home here in Cleveland. He's moved around a whole lot,'' Joey said. “If someday we could play together again, it would bring back old memories. We play well together and feed off each other's energy and emotions.''

SNOW TIES MARK -- Eric Snow is having a career season... for blocked shots. With a quarter of the season still left, Snow has tied his career high for blocked shots in a season with 16. He's not jumping any higher.

“They just changed the way they count blocked shots,'' Snow said. “When I strip a guy when he's going up they used to count it as a steal, now they give me a block.''

ONE-ARMED HORSE -- Luke Jackson and Larry Hughes aren't close to being ready to practice again with the Cavs, but both have had their casts removed and are doing light workouts during practice. Afterward, they've been taking part in a rather ironic and odd game of HORSE. Jackson, a left-hander with a pin in his broken left wrist, shoots with his right hand. Hughes, a right-hander with pins in his right hand, shoots with his left hand. Hughes currently holds the crown.

Cavaliers find up-tempo style against Raptors to their liking
All starters score in double digits in win over Toronto

By Brian Windhorst
Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - In their perfect world, the Cavaliers probably would choose to play the Toronto Raptors every night.

It's going to be an up-tempo, offense-dominated game when the running Raptors are involved. For all their stated focus on defense this season, at their core the Cavs really love to run, jump and shoot, too.

That DNA hasn't served them well at times, when they've junked their defensive ways and tried to outrun and gun teams such as the Philadelphia 76ers, Washington Wizards or Golden State Warriors. The difference Tuesday was the Raptors simply aren't as good as those teams, and the Cavs have the resources to beat them at their own game.

So flowing on a fun river of offense from numerous contributors, the Cavs streaked past Toronto 106-99 for a third consecutive win.

Smartly, the Cavs (35-26) have rebounded from some post-All-Star doldrums by spanking some weaker NBA sisters in the Chicago Bulls and Raptors (21-39) just before embarking on a four-game road trip. Though they played well defensively in some spurts in the stretch, mostly they've gotten by because their offense has rekindled.

Directly it can be pointed to Eric Snow, who has convinced coach Mike Brown to extend his minutes and let him run the show more. It worked again Tuesday as Snow tied his season high with 14 points and also handed out a season-best 11 assists in 39 fruitful minutes. Under his leadership, the Cavs were able to survive a sub-par shooting night from LeBron James.

James was just 5-of-17 from the floor and scored just 17 points, though he buoyed it with 12 rebounds and eight assists. Usually that would mean trouble, but with the Cavs pushing and moving the ball, he found plenty of help. It was the first time in 23 games James did not lead the Cavs in scoring.

“It is good to see we could help LeBron out,'' Snow said. “I'm trying to be a little assertive; the main focus is to stay aggressive and make plays for other people.''

There were plenty of plays to go around. In all, the Cavs racked up a season-high 30 assists and for just the second time all season, all five starters scored in double figures.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas became an offensive hub at times in the first half, as the Cavs ran some of their best post-centric plays of the season. He finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Drew Gooden was right there with him on the Raptors' weak interior defense, eagerly taking advantage of entry passes for 16 points.

Flip Murray led all Cavs in scoring with 24 points, his most since coming over in a trade from Seattle two weeks ago, converting on a smooth mix of drives and jumpers.

“Different guys stepped up at different times, it was a good win collectively,'' Brown said. ``LeBron didn't shoot the ball all that well tonight, but he stayed in it mentally and down the stretch he controlled the tempo for us.''

James was actually called on to defend Toronto star Chris Bosh, who had 28 points, at times late in the game. Mike James added 31 points on 11-of-19 shooting for Toronto, but the Raptors simply couldn't keep up with the Cavs and didn't help themselves by missing seven free throws down the stretch.

“We got out and got comfortable,'' James said. “We did a great job of countering their attack with our attack.''

Post Balanced team play leads Cavs

Balanced team play leads Cavs
Snow gets first double double

Wednesday, March 08, 2006

Mary Schmitt Boyer
Plain Dealer Reporter

All good things must come to an end.

LeBron James led or shared the lead in scoring in 23 straight games for the Cavaliers.

Until last night.

Flip Murray had 24 points as all five starters scored in double figures in the Cavs' 106-99 victory over the Toronto Raptors at The Q.

"I had no idea," James said when asked his reaction to the end of the streak, which had been the longest active streak in the league.
Then he reconsidered.

"Did you say 23 games?" No. 23 asked with a smile. "It probably happened on purpose."

What happened was that by spreading the offense around, the Cavaliers became much more difficult to defend. James finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, Drew Gooden had 16 points and seven rebounds, Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Eric Snow had 14 points and 11 assists in another strong performance that resulted in his first double double.

"This was a good team effort," Cavs coach Mike Brown said after his team improved to 35-26. That comment may be a cliche, but Tuesday, it was an accurate reflection of the outcome.

"Different guys stepped up at different times," he continued. "It was a good win collectively.
