Cavs going after Pietrius???
Quote:
Ferry wouldn't comment on specific players. Sources say the Cavs have explored a sign-and-trade deal with Warriors free agent Michael Pietrus. Pavlovic could be involved in that scenario. If he returns to the Cavs, he might be hard-pressed to remain in the starting lineup with the emergence of Daniel "Boobie" Gibson. Gibson had a strong performance at the Vegas Summer League at point guard. However, Larry Hughes is expected to remain in the starting lineup at the point, where he's played his best basketball since signing with the Cavs. His plantar fascia is almost completely healed, and he's back on the court playing in St. Louis. The Cavs' scoring increased almost 4.5 points per game with Hughes at the point. Their field-goal percentage also took an upswing. Hughes struggled mightily in the Finals - both physically and statistically - but probably isn't going anywhere. News-Herald
Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry declined to comment on specifics of the Cavaliers' off-season maneuvers, but said they are aggressively pursuing avenues to improve. Among those explored, a source said, is mild interest in a potential sign-and-trade deal for Golden State restricted free agent Mickael Pietrus, a 6-6 small forward. "We're exploring every option we can, either through trade or free agency," Ferry said Wednesday. Cleveland Plain Dealer

Re: Cavs going after Pietrius???
This is a net neutral move. Peitrius is probably a better man on man defender then Pavs but Pavs is more polished on offense. Plus Pietrius seems to have even more problems with basketball IQ then Pavs

Re: Cavs going after Pietrius???
I'd rather just keep Sasha. Pietrus is a nice talent, i'd take him if we can work a deal for him dumping some dead weight or expirings, but otherwise bring back Pavs.
I'm not a fan of keeping Larry Hughes @ PG again either. Yeah we did better with him there, but that's because Eric Snow was starting the whole damn year.

Well, if this trade goes down, I won't be shocked to see Golden State trying to deal Jason Williams to Cleveland for Gooden.

Re: Cavs going after Pietrius???
Why would Miami just dump Williams though for Peitrus? He's the only real PG on that roster unless you trust an ancient Payton, Sarunas, and Smush Parker to run the point

Maybe we can trade DJ back to them....
Actually I wouldn't be surprised if Miami made a run at Bibby in that scenario

Re: Cavs going after Pietrius???
I love Pietrus. He'd be a Mike Brown kind of guy to boot. And he attacks the basket like Pavs does. And I think he is stronger mentally than Pavs. I would be down with that transaction. But I would not start Larry Hughes with him. I would start Gibson and bring Hughes off the bench. Unless Larry just comes back next year tearing it up in practice. Even then, I think he makes sense to bring off the bench at this stage of his career.

Re: Cavs going after Pietrius???
Hughes and Pietruis together is toxic IMO: neither have really much of a clue when it comes to offensive execution. I would love to have both Pietrus and Sasha if we're able to dump Hughes but that ain't happening

Hughes would never agree to coming off the bench. He already publicly complained about his role in the offense

Who cares what Hughes thinks? It's not like he really brings enough to the table to complain. I'm sure Damon Jones hates coming off the bench too, but Mike Brown isn't about to start him.

Maybe there's still hope that he can contribute enough this year to salvage his trade value in the offseason? We'd basically make him a dead-weight contract if we piss him off and he sulks and contributes even less than he does now.
