Calderon?
Anyway we could get Calderon? In only 19mpg the guy has a PER of 24!!!!
I think he's not seeing that many minutes because Ford is also playing well and he's got a big contract.
Calderon is also a FA at the end of the year so there is a chance he won't be with Toronto anyway at the end of the year.
I think they need a big man Gooden or AV for Calderon? He's 6'3" so you could at times even run a Boobie/Calderon backcourt

Re: Calderon?
Um, I wish.
Ask Raptors fans, most of them wouldn't even trade Calderon for AV. I don't see us having the resources to get him. He would be incredible to have, though. He's averaging 6.1 assists in 18.9 mpg!

Re: Calderon?
yeah t.o. here.. sometimes i hear people don't think our coach smitchell utilize jose enough.. i feel this way often but with ford it is hard.. he is RFA but i think he'll be back.. his bestfriend (Garbajosa) is on this team, he might take less to stay here, BC will definitly resign him..
BUT.. if for some idiotic reason Colangelo doesnt want to keep him.. one of my first thoughts, or wishes, would be a sign & trade with someone exactly like AV, toronto Needs someone like him to get to the next level.

Yeah, I think AV would be a good fit in Toronto. Plus Raptors fans still have a fresh memory of the kind of impact his energy has at the end of games
But I just get the impression they adore him and he's not going anywhere. Too bad, too, because he's exactly what we need and AV is exactly what Toronto needs. I would really really hate to lose AV, but we've just gone so long without a legitimate point guard.

Re: Calderon?
Jose would do really well in Cleveland too. He's an absolutely wonderful player; I've been a fan since his first game as a Raptor. As a fan of the Raptors though, I wouldn't want to see him go. I'm not 100% positive of my position, but I think I may prefer to trade Ford more. If it means anything, if there's anywhere other then Toronto I'd want Jose to go, it would be Cleveland. Plus AV would be great for the Raptors.

Re: Calderon?
Calderon can definitely ball. Which means he won't soon be wearing a Cavs jersey

Re: Calderon?
Calderon would be the starting PG for 1/2 the teams in the NBA. I'd get rid of every PG on the Houston roster just to get him. He's a stud.

Re: Calderon?
My only concern would be his defense - outside of that he would be a perfect fit on our roster, true PG.
I'd rather deal them Gooden than AV btw

Caldy's D is slightly above-average as far as PG's go.. he isnt a lockdown defender by any means, but he hustles, has speed to stay infront of almost any PG in the league, routinely gets steals off his man, & he is one of the best on our Toronto team at taking the charges from the opposition.
btw i'd rather never deal calderon for ducktail, i just hate gooden. AV is the closest thing to a fair trade i can think of trading Jose for in terms of need..
tho i do understand my people in Cleveland feel the same way about Anderson that my T.O. people feel about Jose so i understand your thought, two barely-known top level commodities around the league.

Re: Calderon?
I think that our defensive system, and Lebron can cover for most defensive deficiencies. Mike Brown could probably teach Calderon to be a very good defensive player. He could also ruin him as an offensive player.

Re: Calderon?
It would really have to depend on AV's contract situation. If he gets something like 7-8 mil a year, I don't think Colangelo would want to take on his contract. That kind of money is too much for a bench player as he won't be the Raptors future starter with Bargnani and Bosh already in there.
Calderon is actually more available now than he was before. He has a close bond with Garbajosa and will likely stay if Garbajosa stays. However, there has been a rift recently between Garbo and the Raptors regarding his playing time and injury. If Garbo leaves Toronto, perhaps Calderon would get disgruntled and be looking to move as well.
As a Raptor fan I'm more interested in Pavlovic though. Our perimeter defense have been horrible in the past until Jamario Moon emerged out of nowhere and became our starting SF. Anthony Parker is getting up there in age and Pavlovic would be a great replacement for him if Parker declines.
The Raptors also have an interesting Euro prospect named Roko Ukic. If anyone remembers him, he was projected to be a late lottery pick in the 2005 draft but slid to 41 to the Raptors. He is currently the starting PG for Lotticatica Roma in the Italian league and is only 23 years old. With Ford and Calderon in Toronto, if Ukic has what it takes to make it to the NBA, it will likely be with another team.
