Bobcats sign Anderson Varejao

ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported the offer sheet is worth $17.4 million, which would fit the Bobcats' mid-level salary cap exception.
|
Are we serious we wouldn't pay AV 3yrs 17.4 million? I am not sure what card Danny Ferry has up his sleeve but I guess we will have one week to find out about it.

What we wouldn't do was give Andy the player option for the 3rd year. The Bobcats did. That was the tipping point.
He'll be in a Cavs uniform within a couple of weeks.

I just can't see how we were around the 6 million a year offer, and rumor had it he wanted 10 a year. Then the Bobcats offer him a really nice deal (for us to match), does AV have the choice not to report or anything if we match?
Because he has to feel as though we put up no effort to sign him - then we come crawling back in some sort of way!

He signed that deal with the full knowledge that the Cavs were going to match.
The reason he signed is because he and Fegan thought that was the best they could do at this point. So instead of getting the big bucks like they had hoped, they're going to settle for a MLE deal for 2 years (the shortest we were offering was 3 years), and hope he gets big bucks as a UFA on the market in two years.
They went through Charlotte to get one provision that we wouldn't offer, but they're still going to come out of this really hurting. Andy better hope he doesn't suffer a serious injury.

Yeah we'll no doubt match. What a nightmare this has been. Hopefully Andy fires his agent now.

Re: Bobcats sign Anderson Varejao
Who is Charlotte's GM? It's not Michael Jordan is it?
He didn't screw us as bad as he could have signing AV to a 1yr deal so frankly this is good news. Match and bring Andy back into the fold. He wants to leave after 2 yrs so be it.
I bet they will cut Nichols. He has sucked so far here but when I saw him this summer he was lighting it up. Could backfire on us letting him go kind of like Kapono

I would think we would find a way to unload Shannon before Nichols. Shannon already got his chance in Cleveland, Nichols hasn't really.

Finally. This whole thing from Andy and his agent has been ridiculous.

Re: Bobcats sign Anderson Varejao
Ferry won this round in my book. We're playing less for AV then we would have and we don't have a long term deal. This is a big gamble for AV: if he gets hurt this could be real blow to him. On the flip side, he still has a chance for a big payday if he turns into superstar.
In any case we add even more chips in terms of good deals: gooden's, AV's, Snow's, Newble's, Marshall's, etc are all now or going to be in a year very cap friendly deals in terms of expiring and low money deals

We're showcasing him for a trade. It could be ugly.
