Josh Childress
Sure, he has the ugly mechanics on his shot but he is versatile and watching him (since college and through to this series), he is a versatile guy with good energy, hustle, rebounding and some defense. I remember back in the draft, when Cleveland took Luke Jackson, some analysts predicted if Josh was still on the board, Cleveland would have taken him.
I know this thread is just wondering "what if?" But at times when Devin Brown isn't on, I just figure if we had a guy who roughly did the same things (but more consistently and better), we'd be real solid.
P.S.
Josh Smith is looking like a stud too lately. If he keeps it up, he'll really be in the driver's seat for getting paid (somebody somewhere will do it). Hmm... Could have drafted him too. =D

Re: Josh Childress
Yeah the fact we passed up on Josh Smith is frustrating. He and Lebron are both so young they could have grown together
We could have basically sported a lineup with Lebron, Smith, Boozer, and Z.

Re: Josh Childress
Wait a second, are you trying to tell me that we have traditionally very poor at evaluating young talent and drafting accordingly?
I refuse to believe...

Re: Josh Childress
Missing out of Josh Smith was huge. I saw him play in high school with Rondo and both were beasts back then too.
Josh Smith is going to command a good payday down the road. If he goes for the max, it comes down to who has the money and who is willing to pay to that. Since Atlanta has many forwards, a guy like Josh Childress would probably be easier to bargain for.
That said, I'm not sure Cleveland is looking at either player but with the cap we'll have freeing up, the Cavaliers can afford to look around and think hard before making their decision (on whoever it may be).
I also hope Cleveland does well in this year's upcoming draft. Since the Paxson debacle, 1st round picks have been hard to come by. Having a top 20 pick is nice, so Cleveland needs to do their scouting.

Re: Josh Childress
how can you fault the cavs though we needed outside shooting we had absolutely no shooting and luke was supposed to be that guy. How could we draft an athletic project with no shot? now since we have a bunch of deadeye shooters its different but still..

Re: Josh Childress
I bet if we kicked the Hawks some cap relief so they can sign Josh Smith, we could get Childress.
Sucks we missed on Josh Smith. Love watching him. Someone made the comparison somewhere else that I liked that Josh Smith is like a retarded Lebron James. That's about right. If you just took Lebron's raw skills, stripped him of his basketball IQ, and told him to try and block everything in the lane, you would end up with Josh Smith. When Josh Smith really figures out how to play, he's going to be really scary. Hell he already is scary.
And you want to talk about people we missed. Joe Johnson instead of Larry Hughes!
I don't know if there is a more perfect two out there to put with Lebron than Joe Johnson.
Hopefully we do something to get the team younger and more athletic this offseason.

childress would be a great addition to the cavs if there is some way they could get him.
his mechanics don't matter, he's still a very good shooter. he leads the league in two point field goal percentage for a perimeter player. add in all the other good things about him and he'd be great playing next to lebron.

Re: Josh Childress
I've been a fan of Childress for some time, I think Atlanta is going to try to re-sign both Joshes this summer though. Also I can sympathize about draft mistakes. Imagine Chris Paul on this team, . And Josh Childress is a better player than Marvin Williams, IMO. That is what is frustrating.

It wasn't that we drafted Luke but the fact in same ****ing summer we traded a first rounder for Pavlovic, who plays the same ****ing position as Luke. So we ended up wasting two first rounder on two below average players who play the same spot. That was an absolutely brilliant summer by Paxson there

Re: Josh Childress
Childress is the good version of Devin Brown. I love the signing, but his 3-ball is lacking. If Sasha never comes back, Cleveland still wants shooters correct?

Didn't the Joe Johnson deal also involve draft picks? If so, that's barking up a tree Cleveland doesn't want.
