There are many obvious contributing factors to the success of the Cavaliers. There's the coaching from Paul Silas, and the play of LeBron James and Zydrunas Ilgauskas.
There's also Wes Wilcox.
Wilcox is the Cavs' advance scout. He's responsible for scouting the Cavs' upcoming opponents. His main responsibility is picking up on that team's offensive plays. Wilcox wants to learn tendencies, strengths, weaknesses and what a team likes to do in certain situations.
"The big advantage to have a scout at a game is to get play calls," said Cavs assistant coach Mark Osowski said. "That's a valuable aspect for us to know what's coming and to be able to call out that play to give the players the advance warning. Wes being there is able to pick up play calls and pass it to the team, so when we see certain plays coming, we're able to warn our players."
In other words, Wilcox, like so many other advance scouts, is a spy.
