Devin Harris

Quote:
Draftcity.com:
Strengths: In terms of physical attributes, Devin Harris possesses all the characteristics you could ask for from an NBA PG and much more. He has great size (6-3) that he uses extremely well to rebound, defend, and shoot over his defenders while posting up or from the perimeter. He is quick, agile, and explosive, with a dynamite first step that he has used to blow by all the best defenders in the NCAA. He finishes very well once he gets to the hoop and has no problem taking contact and getting to the line. He changes gears and gets up and down the court in the blink of an eye. Excels in transition, flies down the court with the ball, weaves in and out of traffic and either finishes with authority or finds the open man. A good ball handler, protects the ball well and keeps turnovers down to a minimum. Can create shots for himself with a nice crossover and either take the ball left or right or stop and pull up from mid-range.
Long arms allow him to get in the passing lanes, block shots and rebound extremely well. Plays good defense when he wants to.

Loves to use his size and excellent footwork to post up his man, has a variety of moves he can use in the paint, including a nasty spin move off the dribble that is extremely hard to stop. If the opposition decides to put a smaller, quicker guard to stop him, he can use his quick turnaround jump shot to punish them. Comes off screens well and has a very quick release on his shot.

A very unselfish player with a good head on his shoulders, extremely coachable, understands the game and has a good character. Has no problem giving up the rock to the open man. Shown solid leadership skills in what looks like his final year as a Badger. Very competitive player, hasn’t shown much of an ego during his 3 years at Wisconsin so far, is willing to do whatever is necessary in order to secure the win. Has consistently improved not only from year to year in college, but from month to month, especially in this his junior year.

Has showed up numerous times in clutch situations, knocking down free throws, hitting game winning shots and showing good decision making down the stretch.

Extremely durable and very experienced, has started in every game (91) since he arrived at Wisconsin. Harris is second in the country to only Chris Thomas from Notre Dame in career minutes played amongst juniors.

Weaknesses: His assist numbers are not very high due to Wisconsin’s style of play, which is largely based on the swing offense (slower pace and more deliberate which leads to better shots). This also helps keep his turnover numbers to a minimum. While he has shown much improvement in distributing the ball, he is still somewhat of a combo guard. Sometimes a little too quiet as a playmaker, could be more vocal in directing his teammates and running the team. His shot selection can be very bad at times; he will sometimes take the ball up the floor and force shots with lots of time on the shot clock. Has a good first step and can create his own shot, but doesn’t use it enough, settling for the outside J. Midrange game isn’t there quite yet. Outside shooting is still very inconsistent. One game it’s there, one game it isn’t, regardless, Harris keeps shooting. He comes off screens well and has a good stroke spotting up, but has problems shooting off the dribble.
Very thin and frail, needs to bulk up and get stronger.

Often lacks intensity on defense compared with how he plays on offense. Will get burned by smaller and quicker players. Needs to find a way to maintain a consistent level of intensity for the entire game, as he tends to occasionally disappear for stretches of games, but this has improved in his Junior year.

The part I bolded I thought was very interesting and relevant.

They compare Harris to Sam Cassell, although he's a lot more athletic.

I admit I haven't seen him play very much. However, like futuristxen said, I've heard nothing but good things about him... and curiously, he's one of the players in the draft right now that is projected to go high but nobody is talking about whatsoever... is that a tip off that he's very highly valued in this draft?

What do you think of him? Draftcity's mock has him going to Cleveland at 10 right now.

I think he could go as high as 4 to the Bobcats if the select to choose a college player that can play right away. He also could go to the Suns(if they dont want to wait for Vujanic) or the Raptors. He would really be a steal if he slipped to 10. I have seen him play in person a couple of times and he is a dynamite scorer and a good defender and I think the best PG in this class.

How is he at pushing the ball in transition?

He is pretty good at getting the ball up the floor but usually he will dribble the ball up instead of passing the ball down the court. He is efficient at pushing the ball in transition but he isn't any Jason Kidd.
