I dont know the exact details of his contract, but how long can we wait before we have to either give him an option or let him walk and try to re-sign him?

You guys have a team option on him for next year (which obviously will be used), at which time he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

There was talk about resigning Boozer this year (and giving him the pay increase he so richly deserves). However, in order to do that the Cavaliers would have to not pick up the option and therefore make him a free agent. In so doing all of the leverage goes from the teams side to that of the player. They might still do it, and just trust that he would resign with the team but it is a pretty risky move.
