college ball and shooting form?

Hi, I ave 2 questions. First, what ball does college ncaa use? Is it the nike baller? nike rise? Does every game use it in college?
How bout in h.s? is it also the nike baller or rise?

Secondly, I have a problem with my shooting form. The *supposedly* right form is hold it like a waiter, then flick your arm and wrist correct? However, I don't think I'm strong enough to hold it in the air then flick. I usually start from the chest and throw it in the basket instead of fulling bringing it up, then shooting. So does anyone know what I should do? lift weights?

Thank You

Re: college ball and shooting form?

Colleges use different balls. For example, schools sponsored by Nike use Nike balls... There are several balls used by high schools. Public schools for the most part use balls that are approved by the NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations). Those balls have the NFHS logo on them. There are a TON of balls approved by the NFHS. It's up to the school what brand they use.

Hit the weight room, dude.

Re: college ball and shooting form?

Another thing to do for shooting form purposes is to start a few feet from the basket, holding the ball in your shooting hand. Without using your other hand, practice shooting one-handed with the correct form from a few feet out until it starts to feel right. It's not actually as much about strength as it is about feeling comfortable using different (correct) muscles for shooting. That's how my college coach got me to pull my elbow in, at any rate.

Re: college ball and shooting form?

Lie down flat on your back and shoot the ball up to your self.

Purchase a medicine ball 8-10 lbs and do the shooting motion with it.

Also, make sure that when you are under the hoop like the last poster said, that your arm fully extends to the ceiling after you flick your wrist. It is very telling under the hoop if your shot is a push or an actual shot. It should be one solid motion and you will be able to feel if you are pulling back in any way.

Also, it's not about ARM STRENGTH!!!

I call this the 90-10 rule.

90% of your shot is your lower body. 10% is arms and the "finish"

Report back your results!

Re: college ball and shooting form?

Shooting one handed close to the basket as was mentioned earlier is the best way to improve shooting form.

Here is a link to a demonstration and written explanation of how to practice that way: http://www.coachingtoolbox.net/worko...rim-flips.html

I hope it helps!

Re: college ball and shooting form?

Do Squats.

Stronger Legs will help you get your shot off easier. Your upper body should be SHOOTING the ball not stressing to throw it far enough. The lift in your shot comes from the legs. If your shot doesn't work this way then you need to retool.

Re: college ball and shooting form?

what do you mean retool?

Also when people shoot, isn't the right form, to jump then shoot while your in the air (like a fade away)? instead of jumping up and shooting at the same time?
Because when I shoot, I jump up then release instead of shooting and jumping at the same time. (I like fadeaways)

I remember 1 time when I hadn't played ball for about 3-4weeks and throughout that week i only went to the gym lifting weights. I notice the ball was A LOT lighter and I was able to jump up and shoot it with ease, but of course it was not accurate. After wards I started to no go to the gym again, and it feels heavier now. Therefore I think I'll be going back during summer break and train hard for 3 months.

Re: college ball and shooting form?

You want to release the ball at the top of your shot. If your shooting a fade away every time then your holding the ball too long and you have very poor form. You'll never get to the next level without fixing that.
