Direct quotes from Holmes within the month:

“Miami and Florida are my dream schools and I am going to look at them hard, but they haven’t been showing me as much interest anymore,” he said. “I am going to visit them both this summer. I really like the competition level at both schools. If I go to either one, I will be competing against the best players and that will help me get better.”

“I’m definitely very interested in Florida and looking forward to going down there.”

Holmes was very much interested in UF. But it doesn't really matter anymore.

Re: Official 2009 Recruiting Thread

Damn the Gators, Alajajian is the best interior line prospect this year and has some of the best film in a while from an OL.

In regards to Holmes he has always been enamored with Rutgers and Miami. He may have said that about Florida but he also said ND would be in the thick of it til the end and we are basically out of it (although we did land the better New jersey DT ). Rutgers bound IMO.

Re: Official 2009 Recruiting Thread

I know he was interested in UF. He's been interested in all the schools that offered; he's the type of kid that will give everyone a chance. Just from what I know, though, Maryland and Miami are the only schools I could see him choosing over Rutgers. Hence, they are the only two schools I've been worried about. I'm a lot closer to the Holmes situation than you and I've been following it since December (notice the skull cap he's wearing here). He keeps everything close to the vest. He's the type of kid that tells reporters what they want to hear. For example, a few months ago, he said his parents were going to move from NJ, so Rutgers location wouldn't play that big a factor. Then, a few weeks later, he said his parents had no thoughts about moving from Jersey. Then, a week or so after that, he said his parents were moving again. Anything he says in an interview on rivals or scout should be taken with a grain of salt. Rutgers has improved their position with Holmes drastically over the past two or three months, which is not something you'll find in an article on rivals.

It's nice to know both of you know more about who the kid is enamored with than he does himself.

And if he's the kind of kid who tells anybody what they want to hear as you say JCB, then nobody but himself has any idea where he's going ala Patrick Johnson.

Oh, and there are about a million different examples of a recruit wearing gear from a school they didn't attend.

Well, sorry, but you can't go by what he says in rivals articles.

Many Penn State fans thought Gerald Hodges was almost a PSU lock based on his comments in some articles, which I found hilarious. I did think he would end up at Penn State eventually, but he was far from a lock (obviously). A few months ago, his parents were spotted in Paulsboro wearing Rutgers gear. You don't find stuff like that in rivals articles; you find it on the premium boards. That's why most stuff in the articles is almost all useless and should be taken with a grain of salt. (and that's why I thought he was PSU bound. When his parents were spotted in the gear, most were expecting commitment news the next day. And when it never came, everybody started to worry).

The premium boards are also why I can tell you Glenn Carson is worried about Schiano leaving for Happy Valley. It was never mentioned in any articles (the Rutgers admins purposely left it out) and Penn State fans think it's a load of crap. Well, it's not. It's the exact reason Schiano spent close to 65% of the Spring Game talking with Carson alone (also something you won't find in articles): to convince him he's not leaving for PSU. It's the same reason Carson is mainly considering Penn State. It's not because it's "linebacker U" (although that it a small reason why he's considering the school), but it's because he wants to play for Schiano. And he thinks that if he goes to PSU, and Schiano does indeed leave for Happy Valley, Carson ends up getting his wish. Whereas, if Carson goes to Rutgers and Schiano leaves for PSU, then Glenn is SOL and doesn't get to play for the coach he loves.

The same goes for Holmes. If you had asked me back in Feb if Holmes might go to Rutgers, looking back on it now, I would have told you no chance in hell. Now though, it's a completely different story and Rutgers is very much in the thick of things. And it's not what I read in the articles that changed my mind. It's the boards and it's the stuff you pay the premium membership for (if you actually pay for it).

Dude, quit with the gear. It means nothing. If that's what you're basing your recruiting knowledge on, then you won't learn much.

Bingo again! Almost every offensive recruit loves us initially but we don't even make it out of the spring with half of them. If articles were always true ND would challenge USC for the top class every year (as would a number of other schools).
