Joe Paterno fired, died, & burning in hell; NCAA drops the hammer on Penn St
This looks bad guys
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...ex_case_110511 At approximately 9:30 p.m. on March 1, 2002, a Penn State graduate assistant entered what should have been an empty football locker room. He was surprised to hear the showers running and noises he thought sounded like sexual activity, according to a Pennsylvania grand jury “finding of fact” released Saturday. When he looked in the shower he saw what he estimated to be a 10-year-old boy, hands pressed up against the wall, “being subjected to anal intercourse,” by Jerry Sandusky, then 58 and Penn State’s former defensive coordinator. The grad assistant said both the boy and the coach saw him before he fled to his office where, distraught and stunned, the grad assistant telephoned his father, who instructed his son to flee the building. ... It is actually even more than that, a stomach-turning 23-page grand jury report that could be the ugliest scandal in the history of college athletics. The failure of Penn State officials to call in the proper authorities potentially allowed the alleged sexual predator to live free for an additional nine-and-a-half years. This case demands answers to deep and troubling questions right up the chain of command at Penn State, including Spanier and the legendary Paterno. |

Re: Penn State AD charged with perjury
Crazy, Sandusky was once considered the favorite to replace JoePa.
Here's more about it http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...ch-allegations Why didn't the grad assistant who actually saw the pederast in action call the cops in the first place? Why was this seemingly covered up? Schultz, Curley, and Spanier need to be fired ASAP I really don't see how JoePa keeps his job, even if he is only guilty of negligence.

Re: Penn State AD charged with perjury
I'm outraged. This is HUGE. This is ALL anyone should be talking about. This is Joe Paterno, almost certainly aware of an incident in 1998 when a Korean War vet janitor walked in on Sandusky raping a child and saying the image was worse than anything he saw in war, hearing from the now recruiting coordinator Mike Mcqueary that Sandusky was doing the exact same thing only 4 years later when his GA made a trip to his residence on a Sunday morning, AND BARELY DOING ANYTHING. Reporting it to his administrators and not following up or calling the police himself. In fact, Joe Pa, despite knowing Sandusky was "horsing around" in the showers alone with a 10 year old at night, spoke at one of his things in 2004 and had Sandusky speak to the team in 2006. Sandusky was bringing his victims to Bowl Games when he was the PSU defensive coordinator and raping them on the school's dime. Sandusky had overnight camps at PSU campuses for 4th to 9th graders as late as 2009!
The fact that this isn't the biggest story in America right now is ridiculous. |

Re: Penn State AD charged with perjury
I really have no idea what Joe knew or when he knew it, but I have a really hard time imagining what motivated these other two clowns to try to cover this shit up. I would guess that you would have to reasonably intelligent to become the AD and a high ranking administrator of some a large school. You get yourself a couple of pretty nice jobs, but then you turn around and do something that monumentally stupid. The shit is going to come out eventually and you're almost certain to get caught. You damned well lose a high paying job when that happens and you may well go to jail. Where is the upside to this plan of action?

Re: Penn State AD charged with perjury
Joe Pa has to go.
They're giving it time, but no one is really giving it the degree of attention it deserves. I can honestly say this is the most disgusting story line in American sports of my life. There is no issue as black and white as child molestation. The fact Joe told the AD isn't enough. He knew Sandusky was still out and he should've followed up and told the police. This is just frustrating and upsetting to have guys in a position of authority and abuse it in this kind of way. To think every time another school had NCAA violations PSU fans would explain how they didn't pay kids to play. I'd much rather have a school that paid than to harbor a monster for years.

Re: Penn State AD charged with perjury
This story is disgusting on many levels. ESPN ran a story yesterday on how this scandal is going to effect recruiting. I mean, seriously? Embarrassing.
I don't know the all the details that have surfaced but if this was really covered up, everyone has to be fired. |

Re: Penn State AD charged with perjury
This is what a Penn State fan responded to me on facebook saying:
"All due respect, this is a family matter and you're not part of the family. You're being a hater right now. We kick your ass in football and you beat us on the court. We'll lead the charge to fix this." smh

Re: Penn State AD charged with perjury
Listening to Ivan Maisel's podcast for ESPN, a guy I usually like (and I really like him and Beano), but I'm disgusted by this:
"I spoke to Jay Paterno who helped Joe write the statement, [...] Joe did not know. He just did not know [...] I don't see how running him off solves anything." Do your ****ing job as a journalist Ivan, don't just be a copy machine for the Paterno family. Hope Beano puts him in his place on Wednesday; I'm sure he's totally outraged, and seems like a pretty sharp NYT reader to this day despite his senile exterior. Although it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he blindly backed Paterno either. Here's a fact, Paterno knew there was felonious child molestation in 2002 by Sandusky (whether he knew the extent or specifics is not clear) and his memory was refreshed 11 months ago when he gave his Grand Jury testimony, yet Sandusky as recently as LAST WEEK was still using the football weight room multiple times each week. |

Re: Penn State AD charged with perjury
Paterno needs to resign now. I'm disgusted by his actions (or lack thereof), and the university cannot possibly stand behind him. The president needs to be gone too.
Quote:
Legally, Joe Pa had no obligation. I get it. But there's clearly blood on his hands, and quite frankly I don't know how he, the AD, the former grad assistant or any of the pigs involved in the coverup sleep at night knowing they could've prevented every rape that occurred after March 1, 2002. The toughest question to me is who's the biggest piece of shit involved, outside of Sandusky obviously. Basically, you have a circle of pieces of shit who put their careers and their reputations over the safety and well-being of children everywhere. The pussy ass grad assistant, a grown man, who sees an old slimy dude sodomizing a 10 year old boy in the shower and runs away to call his daddy? Are you ****ing serious? Then he just sends it up the ladder and forgets it ever happened. Perhaps he was bribed by Schultz, Curley and/or Paterno. Who knows? He has a nice job now. They're all heartless ****s, and this story makes me want to vomit every time I read another article or even think about it. |

Re: Penn State AD charged with perjury
This was my first reaction too, but I've reconsidered. I just don't think anyone can say for sure how they would react if they saw that. I think don't think it's crazy for it to scare and scar the shit out of someone and they would just run away.

Re: Penn State AD charged with perjury
Penn State should make a clean break with the past after Paterno finally steps down. They should rename the team the Spartans...
