Danny O'Brien transfers to Wisconsin

Does anyone have the official # of transfers since Randy Edsall took over? Getting to be ridiculous. I know that OL Max Garcia is trying to decide between UGA & Florida.

Wisconsin has added another coveted quarterback transfer, as Danny O'Brien will suit up for the Badgers.

The team on Tuesday announced the signing of O'Brien after the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported his arrival. Because O'Brien graduated from Maryland in three years, he will have two seasons of eligibility at Wisconsin and can play immediately.

O'Brien visited Wisconsin during the weekend but spent Monday attending a practice at Penn State, where he had visited earlier this month. He also reportedly considered Mississippi and Vanderbilt.

Didn't know there was a thread here. Don't check this board much during the off season. Anyway, this is HUGE for us. I hope after O'Brien leaves we won't be Rent a QB University anymore, but we have had brutal luck with QB injuries the last 4 years. With O'Brien we should be favorites for a Three Peat.

Anyway, the outlook is pretty good for Wisconsin. We lose Oglesby who wasn't great last year (although it has subsequently come to light that he was a ****ing WARRIOR, gutting through some tough injuries), along with Zeitler and Konz, so that's 3 across the O-Line, but I trust this program to just go Next Man In on the offensive line and be fine. Even assuming a little dropoff, the strength of the QB and RB positions should help. Nick Toon is a big loss, but he was dreadful in 2010 and we were okay; the emergence of Abberdaris and Pederson last season should really soften that blow as well. We also lose FB Brady Ewing, but I think they should be able to replace him fine. No real losses on defense except for CB Fenelus.

We bring back Montee Ball and James White in the backfield, O'Brien now at QB, a REALLY strong linebacking corps, and a young and hungry defensive line. The schedule looks easy too, with Michigan State and Ohio State at home. Nebraska and Penn State look like the only challenging road games, the others being Purdue, Indiana, and Oregon State.

^ Didn't notice this thread here either.

Having O'Brien is huge for the Badgers because our QB situation was very iffy at best. The losses on the offense line wouldn't be ideal for most teams, but Wisconsin is a factory for NFL offensive linemen. Badgers are looking like early favorites for the Big Ten.

Anyone have a scouting report for me on Danny O'Brien?

He was great at the start of last season. In fact you could have argued that he was perhaps the best QB in the conference. Traditional drop back QB with a good arm. Then he started having big time problems with turnovers. I mean he was giving it away like Paris Hilton after ten shots of Patron. So he lost his job to a much better athlete.

Pretty good QB, victim of a shitty team around him last year and forcing things a bit too much.

He had a really good freshman season. I think his struggles last season was more because he had a new offensive coordinator.

He's actually from Kernersville, which is about 15 miles North of my house. Of course it's more famous for crooked politicians than it is for quarterbacks.

Yeah having a heisman favorite at running back and basically a pro offensive line should do wonders for him.. im excited to see him play

He doesn't even have to be Russell Wilson. Just do enough to keep the defense from being able to stack the box with 8-9 guys and avoid turnovers and that should be the laundry list of his responsibilities.

That's good, because he's not even close to Russell Wilson. His decision making seems to be the biggest hole in his game, but he's not really the sort of guy who is going to be a difference maker like Wilson.

I think you're selling him a little short and just looking at the numbers.

Look at his freshman year when he had Torrey Smith. In fact, he out-dueled Russell Wilson himself late in the season even though NC State was the more talented team. 417 yards passing, 4 TD and 0 INT. Dude can play, he had nothing around him last year and forced the issue a lot.

I have no clue what O'Brien's numbers are. I am going by watching him and seeing him make too many mistakes and not enough plays. He lost his job last year for a reason and he's transferring because he lost his job at UMd. Russell Wilson is a lot better than him.

Watch film from his freshman year then, that's all I'm saying. Look at what he can do with some talent around him. I don't think he's better than Russell Wilson, but he's a capable QB.

Re: Danny O'Brien transfers to Wisconsin

He's in a dogfight for the starting job right now. Curt Phillips is healthy for the first time in his career as a fifth year senior and looks good. But the real competition is Joel Stave who arrived as a preferred walk on after graduating early in the high school class of 2011. Stave is 6'5'' and has been one of the hardest workers since he got to campus. I think it's kind of a shame that we took O'Brien, because we should walk to the B1G Title Game this year and while Stave might not be better this year, I think he could be an absolute legend and 4 year starter instead of only giving him a shot to beat out Bart Houston starting in 2014 and MAYBE have the job for 2 years.
