LSU kicks Tyrann Mathieu off team
![]() http://espn.go.com/college-football/...iolating-rules BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU has dismissed Heisman Trophy finalist Tyrann Mathieu from its football program for violating school and team rules. "We extended ourselves personally and professionally to him," LSU coach Les Miles said at a news conference Friday. "He has really improved and has a chance to take some steps as a person. "We extended ourself to the full length of the policy." Miles would not specify the reason Mathieu, who was suspended for a game last year for failing a drug test, was kicked off the team. "We'll miss the guy," Miles said. "The football team's got to go on. We'll have to fill the void." A source told ESPN's Joe Schad on Friday that Mathieu has been looking for a new school to play for this season. Mathieu has two years of eligibility left and could transfer, but he would have to sit out this season if he went to another school in major college football. If he moved down a level, to FCS, he could play right away. |

Re: LSU kicks Tyrann Mathieu off team
I wonder if he will just move down to FCS to play another year and become draft eligible immediately.

Re: LSU kicks Tyrann Mathieu off team
I heard a rumor about this happening a month ago. The player was unspecified, but I figured who it would be. I have never seen a player do what Mathieu did on the football field or to energize the Tiger fan base. I don't think weed is a big deal...and I certainly think the synthetic stuff is worse for you, so I hope he at least upgraded to the natural way, for his body. Either way he knew the rules and lost out on millions...thats dumb.
This puts the Tiger defense in a tough spot. As I mentioned in the Heisman thread we lost the best roaming CB/S in the game and our defense does not have a guy to step in and directly fill the role, but we have a very capable defense. The defense isn't going to be able to gamble this season like it did last season.

Re: LSU kicks Tyrann Mathieu off team
Yeah. I don't think weed is a big deal either, but everybody knows the rules. 1st offense, 2nd offense, 3rd offense. After the 2nd, he should have known better.
Sophomore Jalen Collins will replace him at CB and sophomore Odell Beckham will replace him at PR. I don't know as much about them as you, but I know about LSU's DL & they can make any CB look good. |

Re: LSU kicks Tyrann Mathieu off team
Ive heard positive things about Jalen Collins. I doubt he will have Honeybadger impact, but he may be a better pure corner.

Re: LSU kicks Tyrann Mathieu off team
He probably is, but I've seen people underrating Honey Badger after this. He won't be replaced that easily. Of course, it helps that LSU has an easy schedule. The University of Washington is probably the best passing game they'll see all year.

Re: LSU kicks Tyrann Mathieu off team
It's particularly strange because at the same time, LSU is saying Mathieu is permanently ineligible to be part of their team.

Re: LSU kicks Tyrann Mathieu off team
Word on the street (every news channel/website) is Mathieu wants to sit out this season and come back to LSU in 2013. I would be amazed if that happened. I mean how do you have a zero tolerance policy in effect after the three strikes you're out rule? Wasn't the second chance the zero tolerance policy?
Either way if this scenario happens Tyrann Mathieu is the Greatest Tiger of all Time. Ahead of Billy Cannon, Tommy Casonova (my hometown hero), Josh Reed, Kevin Faulk, Charles Alexander and Glenn Dorsey. He would still stand to make money coming out of wherever, thats true Tiger.
