Re: Who will be the next Texas coach?
Pretty much anybody would be a possible candidate. Some guys I think wouldn't leave are Saban, Les Miles, Spurrier, etc. NFL guys will be mentioned too. Gruden, Dungy, etc. Maybe Pete Carroll if Seattle falters later on this season.
Gary Patterson, due to problems with Pachall, the drug sting, etc, might consider a move. Chris Peterson's name will come up as well, but it's doubtful he leaves Boise due to the situation with his daughter's health. Charlie Strong isn't going to be coaching at Louisville next season, although he'll probably end up at Arkansas or Tennessee since I imagine Texas would have a lot of guys on their wish list to work through first. Alabama's DC, Kirby Smart, is a possibility too. Paul Rhodes from Iowa State used to be DC at Texas, and he's improved ISU significantly since he's been there.

Re: Who will be the next Texas coach?
You're going to hear John Gruden's name. Texas is going to go for the big name with NFL connections.
John Chavis has got to be on a general list of people who deserve a chance at head coach. But I hope Les has compromising photos of Chief so he'll have to stay.

Re: Who will be the next Texas coach?
I dont see how its not gonna be Gary Patterson. He gets everything he doesnt have at TCU and look what he did at that program with 35% of what Texas can give

Getting his ass kicked by Stoops almost got him fired before Vince Young and then Colt McCoy became superstar QBs. I feel like Pete Carroll would be too similar to Mack. They both come across as very laid back, and their teams tend to play very undisciplined...at least in Carroll's later years at USC. Obviously the recruiting wouldn't drop off. Petersen would be great in Austin, but I remember reading that his daughter's illness can only be treated at a few facilities in the entire country. I'm not sure if any of those facilities are in Texas. There would be some continuity since Harsin used to work for him at Boise. TCU would probably be willing to bankrupt the rest of their athletics department in order to keep Patterson. I would laugh my ass off if Muschamp bailed on Florida for Texas. I can just imagine the SEC blowhards and Florida rednecks going into full on riot mode. Bobby Petrino would be a PR disaster, and his defenses would underachieve even more than Mack's have. He would work miracles with Ash and some of the underachieving WRs though. Cutfliffe has already been screwed over by shady boosters before (Ole Miss) and he would be under the microscope from Day 1 at Texas. Tommy Tuberville? He got a raw deal at Auburn and has made strides at Texas Tech. I think Paul Rhoads from ISU is a darkhorse candidate. He's made that team relevant and he's got history at Texas. Alabama DC Kirby Smart would be an intriguing hire. But with the money Texas is playing with...is intriguing good enough? Gruden has got the energy and resume, but he seems like the kind of guy who would routinely piss off boosters with his blunt, in your face style.

Re: Who will be the next Texas coach?
Are we SURE Saban/Meyer wouldn't leave?
Texas has more resources than Alabama or Ohio State. Smart, Rhoads, Tuberville, Cutcliffe, Petrino aren't good enough for Texas, IMHO. You're almost better off just keeping Mack Brown. At least Muschamp and Patterson have ties to the state. |

Re: Who will be the next Texas coach?
Looking at that list I think I'd go with Mullen. Winning in the SEC West with the WORST historical program is really incredible. He also seems to be adventurous in his offensive schemes instead of this Mack ideal of "winning teams play boring! Let's do that!"

Re: Who will be the next Texas coach?
Oh, I don't know. Ash was significantly further down in the rankings too. I don't think we'll be able to tell who's better for a couple years, and even then Walsh might not play much for OSU because of Wes Lunt.

Re: Who will be the next Texas coach?
I thought for awhile Texas needed to be more selective in recruiting, not just offering and have like 15 commits by JR day. Offer the sure, known top kids and evaluate more.
