Not the New York market, but maybe New Jersey and that state is a lot bigger than we all realize. And they probably have more living alumni than Michigan, so like I said, the more people who subscribe to the BTN, the better.

i could definitely be wrong, it just seems like no one gives a shit about them. even when they had ray rice and now they're 9-1 and it seems like still no one cares. but AAU school makes them fit in with the academics and if they help bring in more money then obviously that's all that really matters.

If FSU and Clemson go anywhere, it's Big 12. They were starting that up before ND decided to put a toe in the door of the ACC and added a 50M exit fee. If Maryland and others in future can get out, it won't stop others.

I think VT will then leave for SEC like they were planning before ND (**** you ND) if it happens. They're waiting for that domino.

So do you anticipate the Big Ten will increase the amount of conference games per season? If that's the case, I'll be pleased with this move. I'm anticipating teams will still play their four out-of-conference games though and now you just have Maryland and Rutgers in the mix which means you may not play Michigan/Ohio St/Nebraska every year...those are the games that will be replaced with Maryland/Rutgers

Solid move for the Big 10. They are trying to increase the market of the BTN and pushing it in the New York/DC/Maryland market is a great way to do so.

I hope for the sake of the conference they decrease the amount of out of conference games. The only ones of meaning each year have been Michigan/Michigan State against Notre Dame. Outside of that there are no worthwhile out of conference series.

Report: Maryland, Rutgers In Leaders, Illinois To Legends

Penn State will be making less trips to Champaign, according to ESPN's conference expansion guru Brett McMurphy, as Illinois will be moving to the Legends Division when Maryland and Rutgers make their way into the Big Ten come 2014 (Rutgers is supposed to have a 27-month exit period which would keep them from moving until 2015, but sources say they hope to move a year earlier (https://twitter.com/TomLuicci/status/270575676971683840).

Depends what happens with the $50M exit fee. Maryland and FSU voted against it, it'll be interesting to see what Maryland ends up paying. FSU and Clemson to the Big 12 makes sense (a lot more than the SEC). If the exit fee can be negotiated I see the move happening.

Delaney has denied this. I think it sucks! Look at Wisconsin up there completely cut off from literally every historic rival. There isn't an opponent that I care about in our Division in a vacuum, while I relish beating every team in the other division except Nebraska.

This is true. If it could get reduced, I don't think there's anyway to stop it. Yeah, it'd allow Big12 Carolinas and Florida market with those moves. Whereas, SEC already has that. And I know South Carolina has been trying to keep Clemson out of SEC, Florida might be with FSU. Not sure.


I know VT won't be as good in SEC (hell they're not in ACC this yr) but I know it'll help a ton with recruiting and could be one of those teams every so often with right coaches after Beamer. At least some relevant games.

Absolutely, that came to the forefront when FSU was blocked from the SEC by Florida a while back and was an issue again when they didn't join the SEC in 1990. South Carolina was really only added because FSU (ACC) and Miami (Big East) went elsewhere. Arkansas was the no-brainer add, Texas and Texas A&M were on the wish list but weren't realistic at the time. The ACC and Big East were desperate to enter the state of Florida and were quicker and more definitive in their actions than the SEC. To be fair, FSU didn't want to be in the same division as Florida and Florida didn't really want FSU in the SEC at all.
