The part of this story that I find the most interesting is the new verb "catfishing" that has been used by multiple ESPN personalities when describing this situation. The movie was blah, and I haven't seen the TV show. Has this become such a phenomena that it warrants its own verb? I guess we never had a word for it before so it kind of makes sense.

If it hasn't warranted its own verb yet...it surely does now.

there was that british nba guy, but he didnt come out until after he retired. also, considering im blanking on the name, high profile might be a stretch.

John Amechie (sp) Certainly not high profile in any means. There have been gay athletes, but not in the main sports of NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB to come out yet while playing.

Still dont get why we should get a shit. You can just tell Teo got some personal issues if he meet a girl online and believe everything he did. Let the guy deal with it on his own instead of the shit that is going on. We live in a world now where Bullying is a huge issue and how is what all of these reporters and fans doing not bullying? I feel bad for the guy because it kinda does sound like he is going through some stuff whether it is that he is gay or that he fell in love with a chick on the internet

This is the weirdest story I have ever heard. Te'O definitely had some part in this, how large? That we will find out in due time. It'll be interesting to see if ND had any part in it as well, unlikely, but Notre Dame is not exactly the cleanest university when it comes to these things (see Declan Sullivan, Lizzy Seeberg cases). I love the football team, but the way the university handles these issues is extremely perplexing, and for lack of a better word, dirty.

I mentioned this to some friends throughout the season, but the girlfriend story never really added up, which makes me believe he had some part in this. Hopefully for his personal future he just got catfished, because if his part in this ordeal was as big as the DeadSpin article leads on, dude is a horrendous piece of trash.
