Around the Web (June)
Sort of hard to find college basketball stuff in the summer. So, if you find something, post it here so others can read it, and so we can make fun of guys who act like they know what they're talking about.

Five Teams on the Rise
1. Tennessee (22-8, 12-4 SEC East): All that Bruce Pearl did in his first year at the helm in Knoxville was lead the Volunteers to the SEC Eastern Division title. But Tennessee was sent home by Wichita State in a game that exploited their lack of scoring in the post. But this year, guards Chris Lofton and Dane Bradshaw will receive some help in the form of a highly touted recruiting class, led by power forward Duke Crews. Wayne Chism, also a power forward, is no slouch either, and guards Ramar Smith and Marques Johnson should provide some backcourt depth in light of the graduation of C.J. Watson. Florida may be the reigning national champion, but the Vols will give them all they want and then some in the SEC East.

Wow, I would of expected Gonzaga to be on the down list.

Did you read it? They're a close 7th on the guy's list. Obviously they don't have some incredible players coming back, but I don't think you can say that they're "down." They still have Ravio after all

I hate Ravio, He isn't a Point Guard at all, and isn't strong or tall enufgh to be a Shooting Guard.

He can shoot the hell out of the 3 pointer as well...
Cut him some slack he had a lot of personal stuff going on with him throughout this year that nobody should have to deal with...
He'll be back next year shooting at least 45% from the 3...The additions of Bouldin, Downs, Burgess and a healthy Heytvelt to go along with Gurganious, PMAC, Mallon, Pendergraph and Pargo and this coming Gonzaga team should still be a top 25 team, but we'll be back to prominence in the following years...
This kid Stephen Gray who will be in Spokane in the fall of 2007 will be a treat, I've watched him play twice this year and he is as dead on of a shooter as I've seen at his age.

I love the potential of Stephen Gray as well, but on Ravio, He is a good 3 Point Shooter but he has a harder time making them when he is open in the half court then when he is on a break away, I would rather have it be the other way around.

Re: Around the Web (June)
CollegeHoops.net started their annual countdown of 144 teams in 144 days...
Montana starts things off at #144
Quote:

Montana quietly went 24-7 last season and upended Nevada in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before being outmatched by Boston College. The backcourt lacks experience and will have to depend on Bryan Ellis and Max Martin. Ellis is a speedy guard who will look to shine after spending last year as a backup. Martin saw his starts decrease as a sophomore and will need to regain his freshman form. The frontcourt, on the other hand, is deep and talented and will be the strength of the Montana team.

Coping with losing players to the NBA draft

For all the pressure they deal with from October to April, the one item that really seems to unnerve most college basketball coaches is NBA draft early entry

Re: Around the Web (June)
The fact that Gonzaga is out-recruiting everyone on the West Coast is amazing, but they lose Baptista and Morrison, they have to be down. Few is building a really special dynasty over there, but they won't be better next year than they were this past season.
