Texas schools fighting for respect in men's hoops

Of the 19 teams from Texas that compete on the Division I level in men's basketball, 12 have winning records. Seven have at least 10 victories with a week to go before the start of conference play.

The No. 12 Aggies and No. 14 Longhorns are the state's only teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25. Three teams from the Southland Conference — Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin and Texas-Arlington — are ranked among the top 20 in the weekly poll that tracks teams from mid-major conferences.

Texas is one of the best collegiate athletics states period. The only one I would consider above them is California.
