J'Mison Morgan asks out of his LOI at LSU
http://www.beloblog.com/Pe_Blogs/col...s-a-bette.html
Awesome news for the Bruins, assuming LSU releases him out of the LOI. With Aboya potentially leaving, our Center rotation was pretty thin at just Drew Gordon and James Keefe. With Morgan coming in, him and Gordon make for a very nice youthful center duo - both are a bit raw, but lots of upside. If Aboya comes back then all of a sudden our frontcourt looks pretty good again.

That would be a huge pick-up for UCLA.

I've been worried about this since Brady left. I hope they just let the kid out of his LOI if he wants too. It's a big blow to the Tigers and Trent Johnson but you should have kids that want to be there wholeheartedly.
He was the only thing taking the sting out of the Greg Monroe defection...

I shall reprise my rant about how there's absolutely no reason why any player should ever sign a letter of intent. It doesn't do anything whatsoever for you and only benefits the institution and the coach....So why exactly should you agree to sign somehting that you receive no benefit from, yet could place you in the situation where you're forced to stay somewhere you don't want to stay.

Has a school ever not allowed it? no coach in their right mind would force a kid to play for him if the kid didn't want to be there.

I remember Jason Hart wanted to get out of his LOI and be closer with his brother who had some sort of mental handicap, and Jim Boeheim said no. Of course Hart turned out to be a very good 4-year player there.

Scholarships are a scare resource. Unless you're a McDonald's All American, schools aren't going to keep scholarships open for you. Most schools offer more than they can give out, and then the first to accept get them. If you never sign a LOI you might truly end up somewhere you don't want to go, but with the LOI you have a guaranteed spot at a school you like.

When asked if Morgan was definitely committing to UCLA, Morgan's mother, Bianca, said "Yes."
