I'm quite confident that some team in Greece, Italy, Spain or perhaps France will give Jennings a shot and playing time. None of the top teams won't but some middle to bottom team with a need for PG will. And anyway the only thing he has to worry in Europe is to get used to practice a lot more than he has in US or would in College. If his work ethic is good this move will help his development a lot.

Yeah, I mentioned this several times already, those deals especially for American players aren't rare at all. The teams are looking for quality players and the players to make money. Of course they can still be with the same team for a lot of years, but the first deal is usually not a three or four year contract.

but usually aren't they signing guys to one year deals with the intentions of bringing them back if it works out?

Depends on the player. It's hard to predict how good someone can really be in Europe. Derrick Byars was picked in the NBA Draft, but he wasn't able to find a niche yet. Many teams have a lot of fluctuation because of the uncertainty. I think a lot of teams would love to get Jennings, even if it's just for marketing purposes.

Re: Brandon Jennings to Europe
One-year deals (or getting out of longer-term deals due to options or more flexible buyouts) aren't rare, but it is somewhat rare for such a young, unproven player. It's one thing for a team to sign Marcus Fizer or Zoran Planinic or Lynn Greer or Sarunas Jasikevicius. In that year, the team is relatively certain what it's going to get. But it seems to me that usually players who are Jennings' age are signed to longer-term, "developmental" contracts, most often within their home country, but not always.

Re: Brandon Jennings to Europe
It's all speculation though, there has never been a scenario before like this one with Jennings.

Re: Brandon Jennings to Europe
First of all, Jennings doesn't have to get a blockbuster, big money deal to make this worth it to him. He's getting paid, and he will have access 24/7 to the coaches and training facilities. That's all he really needs.
As for the team, Jennings is just another piece to add that could help out the team. What's taking a flier on someone like Brandon Jennings? The market for him won't command a huge salary anyway.
People have also brought up the rarity of a one year contract for a player his age, so what the hell, why not sign him to a 3 year deal with a standard NBA buyout every summer? Jennings can go pro if he wants, the team gets compensated, everybody wins.

i don't think jennings will end up having a problem with any of this, but i think i think playing time, contracts(and actually getting paid the money owed to them), finding the right fit, etc is going to keep there from being a mass migration to europe of all the top high school talent instead of them going to college.

You're the first person I've noticed saying it. Great thinking. And that is how the Euro team wins: insist on a multiyear deal with buyouts, get paid when he leaves.

Who knows? But if the buyout is the max an NBA team can pay--I believe $500k under this CBA, up from $300k--it would be irrelevant to him, so maybe. As long as it's not out of his pocket. And besides, it would be a safety net of sorts, so that he could play two years if he decided it was necessary.
