Eligibility Question

Hey, this applies to all sports.

How can guys like Chris Weinke and Christian Drejer still be eligible to play college ball? Weinke played pro ball with the Blue Jays, and Drejer played pro ball in Holland before they played for FSU and UF, respectively.

How did they not lose ameteur status?

Maybe you're only eligible after playing professionally if you play college ball in Florida?

Chris Wienke when was school at first was a baseball player and football. He left to play baseball professonally. So if he wants to go back to school which he did, he can not play baseball since he made money off the sport, but he can play for football.

For an example, NFL WR, Issac Byrd in college he played two sports. One baseball which he was a walkon, and Football on scholarship. After his soph year he was drafted by the Cards, he went to play minor ball in the summer, but he did not drop out of school, but he can still play football. However, he can not walk on or play for the baseball team anymore.

Many HS players who get drafted in baseball after HS, still go to college on another sport scholarship like football or basketball while playing minor league baseball.

tim dwight went back to college and ran track after playing in the superbowl with the falcons.....

kansasalum is right on the weinke situation

and i believe that with drejer he probably played on a team where players were paid but he himself did not get paid, thus making him eligible

former euro players and their amateur/pro status is a hotly contested topic in the ncaa

we had a guy at HPU sit out 8 games two years ago because he played on a team in lithuania where guys were paid, since they dont have high school sports they all have to play club

and there was another guy on my team from lithuania who received money himself and was completely ineligible

they are both now back in lithuania playing pro
