"CAA TO EXPAND TO 14"
Northeastern University has issued a statement proclaiming that beginning in the 2004-05 season, it will move all sports to the Colonial Athletic Association, or CAA, a Southern based Division I-AAA conference. The University of New Hampshire is also scheduled to announce its annex to the conference of 10 schools later in the week.
To keep the basketball-only schools happy in the south, the CAA will add the College of Charleston and UNC-Greensboro and create two divisions, the Yankee Division and the Dixie Division, for basketball. The new conference for football and basketball will look like this:
BASKETBALL:
Patriot-----
HOFSTRA
DREXEL
NU
NEW HAMPSHIRE
TOWSON
DELAWARE
GEORGE MASON
Dixie-----
VCU
UNCG
UNCW

FOOTBALL:

The new southern schools add to the strength of the CAA in soccer and baseball. UNH ranks in the top 20 of the most well-rounded athletic programs in the nation (so does W&M). UNH is solid in volleyball as well (which we need!); second-straight AE championship. UNH and NU offer solid women's basketball programs and NU offers a solid men's basketball program.
