Chuck Noe, VCU's first coach in the Division I era, died this morning.
The Rams were 95-42 in Coach Noe's six seasons. Highlights included beating Minnesota and Michigan State, and twice defeating a Centenary squad led by Robert Parish.
Coach Noe worked with five players who were drafted by NBA teams: Jesse Dark, Bernard Harris, Richard Jones, Gerald Henderson, Ren Watson.
Coach Noe, who had coached previously at VMI, Virginia Tech and South Carolina, added much class to a program that was in search of a postive image in the early 1970s.
Our hearts go out to his family.
