Moderator question

Hello fellow fans.

I was looking at some profiles and noticed a few had "global moderator" and "community moderator" tags. I know what a moderator is, and I know what an administrator is, but I have no idea what the difference between a global and community moderator is. Can a helpful person explain the titles, responsibilities and the differences between the two?

Thanks. As you can tell by my username I'm a Simpsons fan. DOH!

Re: Moderator question

Community Moderators (CMs) generally are assigned larger portions of the forum with regular moderators working underneath them. Global Moderators (GMs) generally float about with a lot of the same permissions as a CMs. Before we created GMs for the board, a lot of us who were regular moderators (myself included) would notice things that needed to be moderated, but we had no power to do so since it wasn't in our assigned forum. Hence, we have global moderators.

Re: Moderator question

Man that's a tad confusing. So you have two groups with the same exact message board permissions?

Thanks for your quick reply.

Re: Moderator question

Not quite the same permissions. The CMs have a few more permissions/responsibilities that us GMs do not have.

Re: Moderator question

I'm a global mod and even I'm confused as hell. "Global" sure sounds a hell of a lot more important than "Community" yet we are under them.

The only person that it makes sense to on this board is unlikely to read any of this.

Re: Moderator question

Back in "my day" community moderators had the responsibilities of a whole section of forums for example, the pacific division had one Global Moderator that oversaw all of the individual team forms. Now that person had moderator privileges for the whole site, but his responsibilities were still growing that set of forums.

A Global moderator now, simply is in charge of moderating the whole forum and doesn't necessarily have the responsibilities of increased posting in a given area of the site.

Would make sense to make everyone purple that way you don't have to worry about assigning sections to greens (even though I never had a section so in theory I was a global mod in green) and all purples can be responsible for the entire site while still posting in their favorite parts of the forum. Posting in their favorite parts of the forum would also give them the chance to help red mods in those sections with issues if they arise.

Boom. 2 responsibilities in one usergroup.

Re: Moderator question

Holy shit, Cris and Basel are back. Does this mean we are now looking for leaders that want to actually accomplish something with their title?

This is what always should've been done - I'm going to try to do it again but we'll see how others feel. I don't care if it's GM's or CM's - whatever color/name they prefer is what they'll all be merged into with the same permissions.
