Resetting rep: Yay or nay?
I've been here for 7 years. And right now... rep is meaningless. I mean, it is really cool to see the comments people make when you get repped "up" - but what does it mean? The number means nothing. Would it be a good or bad idea to simply have a date each year - at which point we re-set the rep to 0 and let peoples' numbers rebuild. We'd be able to more aptly see who has made more astute (or amusing) posts in recent times. It would make rep MATTER to some small extent. Right now the only time I care about rep is when I get some and it shows up in my User CP. Otherwise? The number on my profile just doesn't matter.
If it was reset once a year, say at new years.. or every midsummer, or something... yeah, some people would wind up with inflated rep. But for the most part we'd be able to glance at the number and it'd have a little meaning. I'm sure this has been posted before, but I'm all in favor of an occasional reset. Whether its now or in six months. Doesn't benefit me any, I only get a few reps each year anyway. But I thought once-upon-a-time it kinda mattered.

Rep doesn't matter at all. Resetting it is pointless, in my opinion.

Re: Resetting rep: Yay or nay?
VS would have to run a query to get everyone's rep reset to 0. I didn't know negative rep didn't exist here. That's partly the entire point of the system.
Anyway if someone is interested in resetting rep to rebuild it, here's how it's calculated on my forum just to provide a general concept. Quote:

Re: Resetting rep: Yay or nay?
It isn't that it matters in any tangible way. But it is still something fun and amusing. Not everything has to "matter " in some serious way to make it interesting to keep track of. As it is everyone has long and relatively meaningless numbers in their profile box. It is relatively incoherent, with massive digits next to all names. A reset doesn't make it "matter" - it just makes it more fun.

We had negative rep but cinco de mayo ruined it. Positive rep was ruined by all the kids that had "rep me and I'll rep you back!" Threads.

Re: Resetting rep: Yay or nay?
I'd like to see us do something where the rep system makes sense. Right now it's just a bunch of random numbers that nobody even understands. I'm down to use Headliner's system or go with Woj's idea.
