Northwestern.
And they never will as long as they are in the Big 10.

The last decent shot they had was in 1999. They were at 6-4 in conference with a few nice road wins... They then caved in and lost seven of there next eight games to finish the season.

Every now and then they have a semi-decent team.

Too bad the Big 10 can't trade Northwestern for Southern Illinois.

Wow, that stretch at the end of the regular season was HARD.

Re: who is the only school not to be March Madness
Well, Northwestern does have the Big 10 Tourney to try and make some noise, but it's hard for anyone to win 3 or 4 games in a row to garner a conference tournament title, let alone the Wildcats. Since the NCAA split apart to form what we now know as Division I-II-III in 1948, there are five schools that have never played in the NCAA tournament. They are: Northwestern (Big 10), Maine and New Hampshire (America East), Army (Patriot League), and St. Francis-N.Y. (NEC). St. Francis has already been eliminated this year as the Terriers failed to qualify for the NEC tournament.

Re: who is the only school not to be March Madness
Unless you're talking about ANY NCAA Tournament, I'm pretty sure there are more than 5 schools who have failed to make it in Division 1.

True--there will be roughly 345 schools playing D-1 hoops next year (including recent D-2 transitional schools). I was referring to schools that have been considered Division 1 in college basketball since its inception in 1948. Since that year, there have been some teams qualify for the tourney that no longer play D-1 hoops. They include NYU, CCNY, Tufts, Trinity (Tex.), Lebanon Valley, Williams, and Los Angeles State. Oklahoma City, Houston Baptist, and Seattle are three schools that dropped down to D-2 or NAIA levels and are transitioning back to D-1 beginning next year. Still, it's surprising that Northwestern has gone 60+ years without experiencing the ultimate in college basketball success. When you look at schools like Vanderbilt, Stanford, and Duke and the success they've had over the years, it's surprising to see the Wildcats being so horrendous in roundball. Well, it did take their football program years to get on the map of the college pigskin landscape, so perhaps their fortunes will improve in the future for basketball, although I have no idea when the renaissance will occur!
