Game Threads: Sunday March 23rd
Siena-Nova in this one, I like Nova in a close one. Anyway, it's pretty interesting that Siena doesn't start a single senior. Next year, they will be tough again. I wonder if McCaffrey will go after the Providence job or stay at Siena.

He should stay at Siena, I really don't see a whole lot of hope for the Providence job.
Nova is on fire early, hopefully they can keep it up.

That's the third time he has fouled a 3 point shooter in the tournament. C'mon Corey.

Why? Rick Barnes got them into the tournament, Rick Pitino took them to a Final Four and Pete Gillen took them to an Elite Eight. Or are you hoping he one day replaces Mike Brey at Notre Dame? Providence is a job in the Big East that has ties to NYC. If you can recruit NYC you can win there.

While that's true I was going more for the fact he will have almost everybody retruning next year at Siena. if he were to have a similar run next year he could put himself in the running for a slightly better job. I honestly wouldn't mind him replacing Brey though I agree though if he recruits well in NYC he can win at Providence. That's a big if though.

McCaffery is a great recruiter.

Re: Game Threads: Sunday March 23rd
Of course before I even thought of it, it seems like Jeff Goodman is also hearing Providence is going to look to him.
Quote:
Win or lose today, Siena coach Fran McCaffery may make as much sense as anyone to succeed Tim Welsh at Providence.
McCaffery, 48, is a Philly guy who has plenty of head coaching experience – at Lehigh, UNC-Greensboro and for the past three years at Siena.
McCaffery can certainly coach – and he’s a proven recruiter as well, getting guys like Kenny Hasbrouck and Edwin Ubiles to Siena and also getting Troy Murphy and Pat Garrity while he was an assistant at Notre Dame.
Some of the other names tossed around continue to be former Providence standout and George Mason coach Jim Larranaga, ex-Friar assistant Fran Fraschilla and Jim O’Brien, the former coach at BC and Ohio State.

Ahh well I wasn't too sure how good of a recruiter he was I just know his teams are always one of the premier teams in the MAAC. It's obvious he can coach though and develop his players.
