DALLAS - The Dallas Mavericks announced they have assigned forward Josh Powell to the Fort Worth Flyers of the NBA Development League (D-League). The Flyers were assigned as the Mavericks' D-League affiliate for the 2005-06 season.

Powell, 6-9, 225, has played in 16 games for Dallas this season, starting one. He has averaged 0.8 points and 1.1 rebounds in 6.3 minutes per game. He tallied a career-high six points and two blocks at Houston on January 18.

The undrafted rookie played for the Mavericks during the Reebok Vegas Summer League and the Reebok Rocky Mountain Revue in Utah. In nine total games, he averaged 11.6 points (50.0% FGs), 8.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 25.8 minutes per game. In addition, he led the Vegas Summer League in rebounding.

Powell spent two seasons at North Carolina State before turning pro. He played professionally in Europe for Lokomotiv Rostov na Donu of the Russian Superleague and Eurorida Scafati of the Italian Lega2 (2003-04) and then for Pepsi Caserta in the Italian Lega2 (2004-05).

Seven of the 22 NBA-assigned players are now currently active in the D-League. Powell is the second player from the Mavericks to be assigned to the Flyers. Rawle Marshall was recalled to Dallas on Sunday. The complete list of 2005-06 NBA to D-League designated players and their current status follows:
