14ers Rally Late to Top Anaheim
DENVER, Dec. 27 - Seven games into his assignment from the Denver Nuggets, Julius Hodge put his mark on the Colorado 14ers Wednesday night. With 4.6 seconds left on the clock, Hodge drove left and pulled up to hit a 17-foot jumper as the buzzer sounded lifting Colorado to a 112-110 victory over the Anaheim Arsenal. The victory improves Colorado to 7-3 on the season, while Anaheim falls to 5-9 with the loss.
In addition to the game-winner, Hodge finished the night with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
"He found a shot, but it wasn't exactly how I drew it up," said 14ers coach Joe Wolf. "I didn't have the defender knocking the ball out of his hands and him gathering it at half court but that's basketball. And fortunately the shot went in for us."
Colorado trailed by as many as 18 points before rallying for the victory. The 14ers outscored the Arsenal 31-18 in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback. Seven players scored in double figures for the 14ers, led by Louis Amundson's 15 points. Anaheim's Jawad Williams led all scorers with 31.
After scoring 14 of his 22 points in the 3rd quarter, Arsenal forward Corsley Edwards fouled out with 3:38 left in the fourth and Anaheim holding a 105-104 lead. Elton Brown took advantage with Edwards out of the game. He scored 4 points in the final 1:51, including a lay-up with 29.3 seconds left that gave Colorado its first lead of the night. Brown also secured the games final rebound that set-up Hodge's game-winning shot.
Colorado next travels to Bismarck for a weekend series with the Dakota Wizards on Friday, Dec. 29 and Friday, Dec. 31. Anaheim returns home to host the Bakersfield Jam on Saturday, Dec. 30.
