Dallas trades Dickau and a future second for Darrell Armstrong

Is that ever a steal right there? Not sure how the PG minutes will work out now, I would imagine Terry starts now, but hey if you can get a player of calibre for complete tat then go for it. And poor old Dan Dickau has to move house again now.

From everything I've heard, Darrell Armstrong is a great locker room prescense. How good is it to have him and Avery helping out

The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have traded guard Dan Dickau and a second round draft pick to the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for guard Darrell Armstrong.

Armstrong (6-1, 180) is in his 11th season out of Fayetteville State in North Carolina. After going undrafted in 1991, he played in the Global Basketball Association, the United States Basketball League and the Continental Basketball Association before he was signed by the Orlando Magic on 4/8/95.

Armstrong played nine seasons for the Magic, quickly turning into a fan favorite along the way. In 1998-99 he earned both the NBA’s Most Improved player award, as well as the league’s Sixth Man Award.

On 7/29/03, Armstrong signed as a free agent with New Orleans. He appeared in 79 games last season with averages of 10.6 points, 3.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.68 steals in 28.4 minutes per game. Armstrong finished 11th in the NBA in steals per game.

In 14 games with nine starts this season for the Hornets, Armstrong has averaged 10.1 points, 4.6 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.07 steals in 29.4 minutes per game. For his career, Armstrong has averaged 11.6 points, 4.9 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.64 steals in 28.4 minutes per game in 595 games. In 31 playoff games, he has averaged 10.3 points, 3.7 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.35 steals in 32.5 minutes per game.

Well known for his endless energy on the court, Armstrong is extremely active in the community as well. For four straight years (2000-2003) he was named as one of the “Good Guys in Sports” by The Sporting News, which recognizes athletes for outstanding character and exemplary civic responsibility. In addition, Armstrong established the Darrell Armstrong Foundation for Premature Babies and he was inducted into the Boys & Girls Club Hall of Fame in May of 1998.

A walk-on at Division II Fayetteville State, Armstrong earned First Team Black College All-America honors as a senior in addition to serving as the team’s place kicker for two years. He twice kicked a school record 48-yard field goal.

Dickau (6-0, 190) departs Dallas after being acquired from Golden State on 8/24/04 along with Erick Dampier, Evan Eschmeyer and the draft rights to Steve Logan in exchange for Christian Laettner, Eduardo Najera, two future first round draft picks, cash considerations and the draft rights to both Luis Flores and Mladen Sekularac. This is the third time Dickau has been traded since February of this year.

The former Gonzaga standout appeared in four games for Dallas this season, scoring a season-high 5 points vs. San Antonio on 11/30. In the preseason, Dickau saw action in four games, averaging 9.5 points on 53.8% shooting from the floor. In 97 career games with Atlanta, Portland and Dallas, Dickau has averaged 2.9 points and 1.3 assists in 8.5 minutes per game.

geez, thats 6 organizations in three years for Dickau. (drafted by kings, sent to atlanta, portland, warriors, mavericks, and and now new orleans). Look out Tony Massenburg, Dan Dickau is going to break that record of most teams played for!

Wow, that is amazing. I am not sure what to say here. I guess Devin will move further into the bench.

Obviously he is better for the Mavs than Dickau. I like his career 3 pt shooting percentage. I don't much like his overall shooting percentage.

I don't really see him as close to as good as Terry. He may be add some veteran leadership. He is not a big assist guy so I don't think they brought him in to dish the ball. In this current offense nobody is going to help add a bunch of assists.

I guess I really don't know how to react to this yet. If we brought in another guy to dribble around and go one on one then I hate it. I guess I will have to wait and see.

Read at rotoworld, granted not always a reliable source, that DA might even be starting, which truly amazes me. Said Devin can learn from him.

It seems like it was a good trade for both sides... Armstrong is helping Dallas with his experience, and Dickau is playing fine in NO!
