Randy Galloway Mavs Article Good stuff

Former Mav a money player on and off court

DALLAS - Last summer, it was about the money. Steve Nash called the bet. Mark Cuban folded.

On Friday night, some 10 months later, it was once again about the money, except on the court instead of at the negotiating table. Nash dealt his cards, and again called for an answer. This time, the Mavericks folded.

Happy summer, fellows.

In a dramatic sidenote, this was Cuban's worst ownership nightmare. He was Nashed. Most importantly, this Game 6 ouster for the Mavs was the worst kind of basketball nightmare.

"I always wanted to end my career as a Maverick," Nash said, after playing the lead role in the Phoenix Suns ending the Mavericks' season with a wild 130-126 overtime win.

....

Tie game. Less than six seconds left. Time out? Did anyone not know to call a timeout? Well, not Jerry Stackhouse. He totally went blank, rushed the ball upcourt, and missed a 3. Stack was 2-for-10 when that clanger went up.

....

While best friend Nash took his career to another level in the playoffs, Dirk faded. Who would have thunk that?

And this Game 6 was the capper for Nash, mainly because he did his damage without much help from Amare Stoudemire. As this series opened, the question was this: Do the Mavs have an answer for Amare?

As this series ended, this we know: The Mavs had no answer for Nash.

...

It was the Mavs who appeared dead in the fourth, going down by five, but then they gamely rallied, and had the lead in the final seconds of regulation.

But along came Nash. He dealt his cards, and punched the Suns' ticket for the conference finals against San Antonio. Meanwhile, the Mavs folded.
