Dress Code? WTF!?

It may not be a big deal, but this really irked me!

NBA dress code might not suit all

NBA teams received a memo from the league office Monday detailing the new dress code for players.

In short, business casual is in.

Retro jerseys, iPods and bling are out.

Players will not be allowed to wear "chains, pendants or medallions" over their clothing and will not be permitted to wear headphones or headgear when they are engaged in team or league business.

The new rules rankled many players even before they knew the particulars.

Dirk Nowitzki said when training camp opened that he "might have some problems" if the league mandated that nice attire be worn to and from buses and while non-uniformed players are on the bench. However, when Nowitzki missed a preseason game last week, he was in stylish slacks and a businesslike shirt.

He'll have to add a sport coat to that ensemble to be league-approved in the future. The directive insists that players on the bench but not in uniform wear a jacket and dress shoes or boots, with socks.

In other situations, business casual will mean a long- or short-sleeved dress shirt and/or sweater. Dress jeans are allowed, as are khakis. Sports jerseys, T-shirts and shorts are out.

The prohibition on headphones might be the most contentious. As many as half the players in the league normally listen to music when they walk from the team bus to the locker room at the arena.

"Team or league business" includes all activity conducted on behalf of the team or the league during which the player is seen by, or interacts with, fans, business partners, members of the public, the media, or other third parties, according to the statement.

It includes arriving at games, leaving games and making promotional or other appearances, except when other attire is appropriate, such as basketball clinics.
