How 'Bout Those Rookies?
The Houston game's at halftime right now, and all I can say is these Mavs rookies have some serious, serious potential, especially Rawle Marshall. Last night I was pretty amazed by what he did but tonight he's had some serious defensive plays so far and is putting up pretty decent stats. I can't wait till next season - Josh Powell and Rawle Marshall are really going to shine.

Re: How 'Bout Those Rookies?
Marshall's got a future, for those that didn't see tonight's game, he reminds me of Josh Howard with enough time and confidence he can become a lethal backup. Plays both sides of the court. The man is only 22 I think. I don't see powell staying, he's too raw no offense really, defense is ok for a 23 yr old but he might be gone come next season.

Yeah But Rawle Marshall did this the other night as well. I liked what I seen from him tonight. He played against players that basicallya are the same age as him tonight.

Because LeBron James and Yao Ming and Dikembe Mutombo are probably some of the worst players the NBA's ever seen, right? Marshall made a couple of key steals tonight and besides steals, several key defensive plays. He's got serious potential.

Re: How 'Bout Those Rookies?
Yep. I don't know about previous people who have held his position, but Donnie Nelson's definitely doing his homework. Rawle Marshall (I can't stop talking about him, he's amazing), Josh Powell, and Marquis Daniels (you have to admit, he was a HUGE driving force for Tuesday night's win) were all undrafted rookies. Not to forget, Avery Johnson was actually once an undrafted rookie, so it's possible they have some future...

Re: How 'Bout Those Rookies?
Donnie Nelson definitely deserves more credit and love than he receives throughout the league. The guy has done an excellent job of finding potential in places where nobody else is even looking.

Re: How 'Bout Those Rookies?
Making a late run: Marshall will continue to start until Adrian Griffin is ready to return.
Owner Mark Cuban joked after Marshall's season-best 12 points against Houston on Wednesday that the 6-6 guard is "trying to make that all-rookie team with a late push."
Johnson just wants to see solid play.
"I told Rawle not to do anything fancy," Johnson said. "Just keep it simple."
Said Marshall: "I had a bunch of great players in front of me. I just waited my turn. Unfortunately they got hurt, and this is my chance. I just want to get out and help."

That's the big problem with rookies. They feel like they need to be flashy and whatnot. Just guard, shoot, hope you can help your team, you don't need to put on a show. I specifically remember one move by Marshall on Wednesday, I think Folowill and Ortegol talked about it, where he went up for the block and could have had an easy one but instead he decided it would be cooler to hammer it down and that didn't work out. Which that's nothing against Marshall, but rookies in general lack a sense of...profesionalism. That's why the Rookie Challenge is an insanely fun game to watch. :P

Re: How 'Bout Those Rookies?
Marshall was a great pickup, he reminds me of Kevin Martin. He plays aggressive defense and is also aggresive on offense. This is a Avery Johnson player. I think he could be starting in years to come. Anyone notice how skinny his legs are?

Re: How 'Bout Those Rookies?
Typical rookie: Rawle Marshall has been a nice fill-in during the injury crunch, but Johnson said the 6-7 rookie is no different from any other first-year player – consistently erratic.
"He's got lots of energy ... but typical rookie – he made 10 mistakes in shootaround this morning," Johnson said. "You never know what you're going to get."

Re: How 'Bout Those Rookies?
I remember I really liked Marshall after seeing him carry his team into the NCAA tournament last year(only to be demolished by North Carolina). He kind of reminds me of Josh Howard. And even though they are both listed as the same height/weight on NBA.com. Marshall looks like a twig out there. Definately needs to hit the weight room this offseason.
