The Particulars
Date: Sunday, March 19th, 2006
Time: 1:00 PM CT
TV: ABC

DALLAS MAVERICKS

(J. Terry, A. Griffin, J. Howard, D. Nowitzki, D. Diop)

Key Reserves: Stackhouse, Dampier & Armstrong

NEW JERSEY NETS

(J. Kidd, V. Carter, R. Jefferson, J. Collins, N. Krstic)

Key Reserves: Robinson, Vaughn & Planinic

If Dallas can win this match, we would once again have sole possession of the best record in the West. We'd also be well on our way to catching upto Detroit. Dallas has won 11 straight games against New Jersey, but they have gone 17-3 at home recently

Dallas will definately miss Adrian Griffin and Josh Howard, our two best defenders - New Jersey is a very guard heavy team with one of the premier scorers in the leagues in Vince Carter and one of the most vastly underrated swingmen in Richard Jefferson. If we can control those two, and not let them burn us - we have a good chance

Dirk will once again need to step up as the Nets aren't the best post defenders, although if Lawrence Frank is smart, then he'll put Richard Jefferson on Dirk at least once to see how it goes. Erick Dampier needs to contain Krstic who yesterday scored 26 points - we don't want to lose because of that.

LAST MEETING: Dallas won 110-77, one of our best games during the 15 win streak.

Re: GT: Dallas Mavericks @ New Jersey Nets

KEY MATCHUP
Vince Carter vs. Marquis Daniels: Carter is averaging just over 24 points and has averaged 26.5 points during the Nets' four-game winning streak. Carter, the fifth overall draft pick in 1998 (Dirk Nowitzki was ninth that year), was held to 17 points in the January game at American Airlines Center. Daniels has been rolling as a starter with Josh Howard and Adrian Griffin out but will have a tough defensive test today.

Inside the Mavericks
On the mark, again: Jason Terry has made at least one 3-pointer in the last 47 games, extending his franchise record each time the Mavs play. He's made 40 of his last 83 from beyond the arc and is averaging 21 points in the last 13 games. He's shooting just over 53 percent overall in that span.

[an error occurred while processing this directive] Briefly: They have won 11 consecutive games against the Nets, their longest run of success against any team in the league, except New Orleans. ... They crushed the Nets, 110-77, at Dallas in January, when Josh Howard had a season-best 29 points. He will not play today.

Inside the Nets
Lost in the shuffle: Jason Kidd recently had a zero-point game, and the Nets still won. He had seven assists, six rebounds and four steals. He remains one of the most versatile players in the league, although his shooting of late has been deplorable (5-of-24 in the last three games).

Briefly: Jason Kidd has four career triple-doubles against the Mavs, including one last season. ... Kidd has 73 career triple-doubles. The Mavericks have 27 in franchise history. ... The Nets haven't beaten the Mavs since March 2, 2000.

I'm not surprised, we need Griffin and Howard back -- now.

Re: GT: Dallas Mavericks @ New Jersey Nets

Nets top Mavericks, 100-89

03:22 PM CST on Sunday, March 19, 2006
Associated Press

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Richard Jefferson scored 28 points, and the New Jersey Nets beat Dallas 100-89 Sunday for their first victory over the Mavericks in six years.

Vince Carter added 23 points for the Nets, who have won five in a row overall and 18 of 21 at home. Jason Kidd rebounded from a pair of quiet scoring games to add 15 points, including a pair of jumpers to halt Dallas' momentum after the Mavs twice got within 11 early in the fourth quarter.

New Jersey had lost 11 straight meetings since its last victory over Dallas on March 2, 2000. The Nets' worst loss of the season came in a 110-77 Mavericks rout on Jan. 14.

This time it was the Nets who rolled, leading by double digits for nearly all of the final 40 minutes and knocking the Mavs out of a share of the top spot in the Western Conference. Dallas fell a half-game behind Southwest Division rival San Antonio.

Dirk Nowitzki tied his season high with 37 points, but he got off to a horrible start right along with the rest of his teammates in the Mavericks' lowest-scoring quarter of the season. Dallas scored only 10 points in the first 12 minutes and had its three-game winning streak snapped.

Nenad Krstic had 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Nets, who led by as many as 25 points. Kidd had nine assists.

The Mavs missed 13 of their first 14 shots while the Nets quickly seized control. They had a double-digit lead a little more than halfway through the quarter, and it ballooned to 22-6 when Kidd set up Jefferson for an alley-oop dunk on the break with 2:25 remaining.

The lead grew to 21 on Jefferson's jumper with 45 seconds left and the Nets were up 29-10 at the end of the quarter. Dallas shot 4-for-22 (18 percent) in the period, with Nowitzki going 1-of-8 for his two points.

Midway through the second quarter, the Mavs had more turnovers (seven) than field goals (six) and trailed 41-18. The Nets settled for a 53-32 lead at halftime, with Jefferson going 7-of-8 for his 17 points.

Mavs coach Avery Johnson shook things up by starting reserves Jerry Stackhouse and Erick Dampier in the third quarter. Nowitzki scored 19 points in the period, but the closest the Mavs got during the quarter was 14 points on his 3-pointer with 4:12 remaining.

Notes: Sunday marked the one-year anniversary of Johnson becoming Mavericks coach after the resignation of Don Nelson. Johnson recently set a record for the best start by an NBA coach, winning 66 of his first 82 games. ... Dallas' previous worst quarter this season was an 11-point first period against Atlanta on Nov. 17 in a victory over Atlanta. ... Kidd passed Albert King (5,595 points) for eighth place on New Jersey's career scoring list and now has 5,607. The player next on the list was also in the arena: Keith Van Horn was with the Mavs but is out with a sprained left knee.
