Should Dallas think about Kareem Rush?

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="8" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td class="wiretap_key_header">Bobcats Waive Kareem Rush</td></tr><tr><td>1st April, 2006 - 3:54 pm</td></tr><tr><td>Charlotte Observer - In a surprising move, the Bobcats waived Kareem Rush. The shooting guard did not play on Friday night against the Bulls.

"We had a conversation, and it ended abruptly," Bickerstaff told the Observer Saturday. "The young man has an abundance of talent, and I hope he realizes that."

"The Bobcats are about two things -- hard work and maximum effort," Bickerstaff said. "With that in mind, we think it's best to go in a different direction with Kareem."

With all of Dallas' injury woes lately, should we think about giving him a go?

Re: Should Dallas think about Kareem Rush?

i can see him being a decent 3rd option, but with as deep as ya'lls bench is, would you really need him?

Re: Should Dallas think about Kareem Rush?

I was thinking about this, but I don't think he'd be playoff eligible anyway. isn't the rule something like they can't join your playoff roster unless they were a free agent for the season before you picked them up or were waived some time in March?

Re: Should Dallas think about Kareem Rush?

Christian Laettner (played 50 some games in 00-01 for the Mavs) is an option according to SI.com...which I'm not sure how that works out, considering his agent claims he's retired and he hasn't played a game this season. o_O

Re: Should Dallas think about Kareem Rush?

It has crossed my mind recently that the Mavs have not had someone to come off the bench to give them some timely shooting. Now with Van Horn pretty much done for the season, I think this move can work. It definitely couldn't hurt.

Re: Should Dallas think about Kareem Rush?

Wasn't there some sort of talk about bring Shawn Kemp to Dallas as a benchwarmer?

He would make a decent back-up.

Kemp! is he even fit enough to play with us. I would rather George Lynch.

Re: Should Dallas think about Kareem Rush?

DALLAS -- Don't rule out Shawn Kemp just yet.

The Mavericks' interest is such that coach Avery Johnson is personally working out the former All-Star power forward today in Houston. An impressive audition is the first step in Kemp joining the Mavs in time for the playoffs.

With the loss of Keith Van Horn to a broken hand, the Mavs are in the market for a backup to Dirk Nowitzki.

Kemp, 36, has been working out in Houston in an attempt to make a comeback. He retired after the 2002-03 season with Orlando, citing weight issues. He's reportedly lost about 50 pounds from his high of 320 pounds.

Even if the Mavs aren't granted the hardship exception to sign a 16th player, Kemp could still be in the plans. Waiving one of the 15 on the roster -- rookie Rawle Marshall is the probable candidate -- would free up a spot.

Kemp, 6-foot-10, averaged 14.6 points and 8.4 rebounds over 14 seasons and has the playoff experience (88 games) the Mavs are looking for.
