Re: Mavericks sign four free agents, including Ebi
DALLAS (August 17, 2006) — The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have signed guard Jose Barea, forward Pat Carroll, forward Ndudi Ebi, and guard Darius Washington. Terms of the deals were undisclosed.
Barea (5-11, 170) went undrafted in this summer’s NBA Draft after playing four years at Northeastern. As a senior, he was named AP All-America honorable mention, Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Player of the Year, CollegeInsider.com CAA Player of the Year and was a CAA All-Conference first team selection. He ranked 18th in the nation in scoring (21.0) and second in assists (8.3). This summer he was a member of the Mavericks Summer League Team that played at the Rocky Mountain Revue. In three games, he averaged 12.0 points, 6.7 assists, 1.7 rebounds in 25.0 minutes. He has also played internationally for the Puerto Rican National Team.
Carroll (6-5, 190) was drafted by the Pennsylvania Valley Dawgs of the USBL in 2005. Last season he played with the Minnesota Timberwolves Summer League Team before joining the Noi Sport Monte Terminillo Rieti in Italy. This past summer he was a member of the Houston Rockets Summer League Team that played in the Toshiba Vegas Summer League. With the Rockets, he averaged 16.4 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 34.2 minutes per game. He played college basketball at St. Joseph’s and was the 2005 Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Year and named AP Honorable Mention All-America as a senior.
Ebi (6-9, 200) was selected in the first round (26th overall) of the 2003 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Last season he played in four preseason games with the Timberwolves and was waived on October 31. He then joined the Ft. Worth Flyers of the NBDL. With the Flyers, he averaged 11.4 points, 6.9 rebound and 2.3 blocks in 24.9 minutes in 16 games. In two seasons as a pro, he has career averages of 2.1 points and 1.0 rebound in 4.5 minutes while playing 19 games.
Washington (6-2, 195) also went undrafted in the 2006 NBA Draft after his sophomore season at Memphis. As a sophomore, he was named AP Honorable Mention All-America and was a First Team All-Conference USA selection. This summer he was a member of the Mavericks Summer League Team that played at the Rocky Mountain Revue. In five games, he averaged 10.4 points, 2.4 assists, and 1.8 rebounds in 21.4 minutes.
