Mavs didn't have old familiar spark in San Antonio's 100-79 win

SAN ANTONIO – The energy didn't quite crackle like it did the last time the Mavericks visited the AT&T Center.
But after the Mavericks had all sorts of problems in a 100-79 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the preseason finale, there won't be any shortage of energy in the five days of practice leading up to the regular-season opener.
Avery Johnson will have all sorts of trouble areas to zero in on.
"I bet in the back of his mind, he wanted this to happen because now everybody has to focus in and know that there's work we have to do before next Thursday," Jerry Stackhouse said. "To beat teams like the one we're opening up with, we got some work to do.
"[But] you don't want to show your hand too much. Most of our stuff that we use, we aren't using now. But we'll have it by next week."
