Why Do You Have Nuggets Spirit ?
Why are you a Nuggets fan ?
What brought you in to the Denver Nuggets fold. I only ask because I can honestly say I have only been a fan the past 2 seasons.
Also what kind of Nuggets spirit do we have on this board ? Anyone here go to the games in Denver ? any locals ?
One thing I notice on this Nuggets message board is that all the posters seem intelligent and respectful. Something I really appreciate and makes me want to come back to see whats going on.
I try and post here myself a lot. But I'm in college and have a part time job. So I come and go. But always find time to at least check out some threads and post a little bit in here and on the main message board.
Anyway heres my Nugget story..
I'm a big time college hoops junkie. Been watching college basketball on espn since i was around 9 years old. I'm 27 now. My favorite team was the Syracuse Orangemen when I was a kid. I'm sure you all can see where this is going.
Well I remember all the Syracuse teams from the late 80s through out the 90s. My all time favorite Syracuse guard is Sherman Douglas! He was a magician to me as a kid what he could do on the court. He kind of reminded me of a Jason Kidd now when I think about it. Anyway falling in love with the orangemen brought me a lot of Cheering a lot of heartbreak during their seasons big east tournments (couldnt stand Georgetown and all those centers that rolled through. Than they go and get some kid named Iverson) The big east confrence was amazing though. The Tournment was always the place to meassure up though. Since Syracuse lost against Indiana in the championship game. I had been waiting to get back to there to win one.
We never did win it. Got to the championship one time though to face I believe it was Kentucky but got beat. We didnt have a lot of stars but tons of big athletic capble players.
As you can see I have many fond memories of the Orangemen and the players that came and left. Like Shermin Douglas, Derrick Coleman, John Wallace, Lawrence Moten and so many more!
But it all finally came together for Coach Jim Boeheim and the Syracuse Orangmen in 2003! Carmelo Anthony was the star to help put the Orangemen over the top we had been waiting and waiting for... And it finally came true!
An amazing accomplishment for Carmelo and the Orangemen. And a small wish of mine since I was a kid to come true.
So here I am 2 years later cheering on Carmelo and the Nuggets. My guy Carmelo and now my team the Denver Nuggets are what I'm all about!

Re: Why Do You Have Nuggets Spirit ?
I live in Oswego, NY, right on Lake Ontario, about an hour from the Carrier Dome. For anyone who doesn't have it figured out, I've been an Orange fan since I started playing/watching basketball in like 3rd grade. And how could you not stay loyal to the kid who brought your team their only championship in one year? I saw them play the Pistons (along with well over 20 thousand other fans) at the Carrier Dome in the preseason of his rookie year, and they're just a fun team to watch, as everyone else here probably knows. I just remember getting down kinda close to the court and thinking, "Wow, that Prince guy is like 6'9 and I think I outweigh him by a little bit." But yeah, Nuggets fan originally for Melo, now a fan for life because of the whole organization and the fan base. Oh yeah, and Dre. I love the other gym rats, which he seems to be.

Would be a dream for me to see the Orangemen play a game at the Carrier Dome. That place looks so huge on tv.

Hey how long ago did your dad see the Nuggets play ? Was it back in the days of McNicholas Arena ?
I have the good fortune to be able to say I saw the Nuggets play the Pistons in 88 at McNicholas Arena.

Re: Why Do You Have Nuggets Spirit ?
Well im a 16 year old boy, going to be 17 at the end of the month(it would be great if they could win on my bday, something they failed to do last year on my bday). I have liked them since i was about 8 years old. I liked them just about the time they had turned into the laughing stock of the league, i dont really have any recolections of them being a great team. I used to like antonio mccdyce and nick van exel as well as lophonso elis. I was there when they only won 17 games. I was also there in the jawan howard era.
I live in the capital of wyoming, cheyenne, which is 100 miles due north of denver. My dad had been a broncos fan since before i was born, so i was quickly turned into a bronco fan. He never like basketball, but once i was old enought to make decisions and such for my self, i started to like basketball, and decided to stick to the home team, or the team that was the closest to me. I like the avs, but only in playoff situains, cause i dotn care for hocky, but i root for all the colorado teams. For i while i was messed up and rooted for boulder and CSU, but wised up and now am a happy fan of the Wyoming cowboys.
Its funny, or may be a little sad, that most of my relitives are nugget fans now. Its easy to see how they can gain fan ship for they are very exciting to watch, but when i first was into basketball, they were all bulls fans. Sure shows how loyal they are these days. I used to cry that everone elses team used to win, and mine always lost. Now i realized that its easy for everone elses team to win, when they go for the best teams all the time. WEll my broncos finally won in 1997 and 1998, and the sad thing is those are some of my happiest memories. Its much more satisfying when you follow your teams through the bad as well as the good. Makes it that much better.

There really is nothing like that place when it's rockin' in there. The two that come to mind that I was at were the Notre Dame game this past year (ESPN gameday, NCAA bon-campus attendence record), and the win over UCONN when Okafor was hurt (2 years ago I think?).
