I would accept that..getting one of the best mid range jumps shooters..the only worries for this trade is Cassels health..

Re: Trade idea
God no, Cassell is about ready to fall apart. Plus he thinks he deserves more money. This kind of move would completely tear down everything that has been built the last 3 years.

Cassell only has 1 year left on his contract, so he would be playing for another one. The Cassell that played in 2003-2004 would be a tremendous boost to the Nuggets. Karl can manage Cassell and the Nuggets locker room has enough "presence" to keep him in check.

Well I'm assuming you would put Cassell at the pt, and move Dre to SG ? Could be a nice match, but I'm still happy with Dre as our pt guard.

No, I want to use Cassell as the 6th man or worst case, as the starting SG if someone better can't be acquired.

What would be the purpose though? I don't think Cassell produce off the bench as much as Boykins did this past season. Plus, Boykins is more suited for the up-tempo game, since Cassell isn't the quickest on the block.

Cassell did just fine in Milwaukee. Boykins works in pure up tempo for limited stretches, but in the half court, he dominates the ball and doesn't make good passes. He is also a major liability on defense. Bottom line Boykins shouldn't be playing as many minutes as he did this season. Since you are a Spurs fan, I can see why you would want the Nuggets to keep Boykins.
From a statistical perspective, here are the numbers
Boykins: 26.4 MPG, 12.4 PPG, 4.5 APG
Cassell: 25.8 MPG, 13.5 PPG, 5.1 APG
Cassell only started 38 of the 56 games he played, so he was also very effective off of the bench. For the 13 games from March 20 to April 17, Cassell came off of the bench and averaged 23.5 MPG, 14.8 PPG, 3.9 APG and shot 50.3% from the field.

Re: Trade idea
If Cassell performed like he did the first year he was with the t-pups, then yes he would be a good pickup. I just get the feeling that he will not regain that form.

Check out Cassell's stats for his 4 full seasons in Milwaukee too.
99-00: 18.6 PPG, 9.0 APG
00-01: 18.2 PPG, 7.6 APG
01-02: 19.7 PPG, 6.7 APG
02-03: 19.7 PPG, 5.8 APG
03-04: 19.8 PPG, 7.3 APG

Melo won't be in his prime for at least another 5 or 6 years, so that is a pretty silly standard. Melo will be good enough next season that the Nuggets need to think about winning now.

O i c,
I agree that Cassell would be a great 6th man and is a little more versatile than Earl. Only thing we would lose with out Earl is speed, and ft shooting. However with Sam we get a good 3pt shooter , a nice post up game, and lots of heart and passion not to mention a big game shot maker.

winning a championship is hard in the nba. spending money on and trading for Cassell hurts us long term.
building a young core via draft and trades has worked for some teams, hardly silly.
