The Nuggets gambled on DerMarr Johnson this season and it paid off. The Nugs signed him to a one-year deal and should resign him to play the 2.

He was a lotto pick in the 2000 draft and has comeback from his car accident at 25 years old to show he still has lots of potential. He started 40/71 games this year, but only averaged 17.4 minutes per. When he was on the floor the Nugs were a better team. He's a 6'9'' SG. He is quick and can dominate offensively. His outside touch needs some work, he shot 35% from 3-range, but he improved as the year went on. He also shot 49% from the field and 80% from the foul line.

If he can work on his outside game and his defense I think his potential is BIG. He could break out next year if he's resigned and given the chance. By signing Bell or Buckner and Kareem Rush we'll have some key bench guards as well.

Why not? I think if he is resigned he will push whoever Kiki and Karl bring in here to compete w/ him. Who out of the likely replacements (Bell, Rush, Buckner, Simmons?, & co.) do you see proving thier worth over DerMarr?

I doubt our draft picks will be able to come in and win the starting job right off. I hope I'm wrong and the Nugs braintrust can finally find a steal.

blame his accident, being not as good as the hawks orginally thought or whatever, he is a special story just because he made it back from the ABA to the NBA. If he starts we arent contenders.

I bet Vo starts over him. Raja Bell would start over him. Between Winston and Garcia, i would guess one of them would start over him. If Garcia proves to be the man he may eventually be the one handling the rock on some basketball team.

i think we could sign both bell and watson in the off season or bell and Jasikevicius

bobby jackson is another option if we want to "risk it". he can play the two

or we could go dip into the shooting guard pool, jaric is a combo.
I like Mobley but im not sure if we can afford him.
joe johnson, that probably isnt happening
kerry kittles would be pretty inexpensive if he isnt looking for a long term deal

you could get a vet like him while you used the draft to find a permanent SG (long term)

bottomline, we need to upgrade. DerMarr isnt good enough.

I don't think DerMarr is good enough next season (compared to Allen or Redd), but I'd like to see him resigned.
Guys like Marion (who was on the trade block most of last season) blossom late. I just see the Nugs letting him walk and him making us regret it.
Example: Billups, Bobby Jackson, Mutombo...
Vo is not the answer. He can stroke it pretty consistantly and get some good backdoor layups, but is D is pretty shaky and he is not quick.

If DerMarr puts in the work on D and 3's in the offseason he could make it. I don't know. I just like his game. Although I see your point of having to upgrade to be contenders.

Minnesota, the Lake Show, and the Clippers will be ready for the playoffs next year so the Nugs gotta make moves and not stay pat.
