Re: 6-0 when watson starts
My theory on Watson, the front office wants him to start to increase his value, but George Karl seems to not want to play him too much.
How much does it have to do with Watson? Not much IMO. Watson is starting because he is serious trade bait IMO, and if he happens to flourish in the role then I'm sure your Nugs will keep him.
1) Yes he starts, but he is usually the first guy to go to the bench halfway into the first quarter, and doesn't come back into the game until LATE in the 2nd quarter, usually under 5 minutes left. Now if he truelly was a "starter" and an important player, the Nugs wouldn't be keeping him out for such long periods of time.
Same thing happens in the second half, he starts the 3rd, goes out early and doesn't come back in until late in the 4th (or as yesterday not at all).
2) So in other words, he is technically starting, but he is not playing a lot of minutes. I think that this is to up his value and make it seem as if the team really wants to keep him. But if they valued him that much, they wouldn't just start him, they would increase his minutes, but his minutes haven't increased much at all.
3) 5 games ago on 1/16 Watson played over 36 minutes, scored 16 points and hit 4 3-pointers. Since then in this winning streak:
1/18 29 minutes - 1 for 7 shooting, 4 points
1/20 25 minutes - 2 for 4 shooting, 8 points
1/22 21 minutes - 4 for 7 shooting 8 points
1/23 22 minutes - 3 for 8 shooting 7 points
During those 4 games he is 3 for 13 from 3 point land.
How much does he have to do with the winning streak? I don't know, maybe by him starting they are having better players play with the second team, because Watson hasn't done much and it doesn't seem like the coaches are trying to give him a lot of minutes.
