Nene email from Bearup...

http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci_4016788

Quote:
The Post confirmed the legitimacy of the e-mail, in which Bearup wrote that three-quarters of the teams in the NBA called about a sign-and-trade deal for Nene, who agreed to a six-year, $60 million deal Sunday.

Truehoop.com quoted Bearup as writing: "I have no doubt the Nuggets would have been faced with either a $70+ million sign-and-trade, or Chicago or Atlanta miss out on their first target and Denver would be forced to match a larger number, or he would have played for the tender and Denver would lose him (in a year). The Nuggets intend to sign him July 12 and have announced such, but are still getting phone calls from teams wanting to sign and trade for him, even though (agent) Dan Fegan would get another $10 million for Nene in that kind of deal."

Bearup also suggested that "the true cost to the Nuggets will be millions less,"

Interesting little tid-bit. I wonder how much Kroenke will like this kind of information being leaked to a website.

Stan the Man likes to keep a close hold on inside scoop. I wonder if Denver is attempting some sort of NBA conspiracy?....
Because this seems too well planned for Bearup to just write this on his own!

Re: Nene email from Bearup...

i doubt it was an accident. postitive PR spin on giving a guy that played one game all year a 60 million dollar deal. I actually agree with Bearup, I just dont recognize his opinion. Get out of the front office Bearup. I want somebody in the GM role, so I can place blame on somebody.

Bearup wants to run the team, but not offically. Karl, wants to run the team, but not offically. Everyone in the front office is fighting over the job. And Melo wants a say. I actually think Melo and Karl should be in the loop, but we need a GM, and bearup needs to get lost

Re: Nene email from Bearup...

Tid-bits from Bearup:

Quote:
The deal was 6 years and 60 million, but a significant portion of that is deferred, such that the true cost to the Nuggets will be millions less. In addition, there are further "stretch" provisions that will lessen the burden if he doesn't hit certain games played and minutes targets. This was a "Troy Murphy" deal, not an "Erick Dampier" deal (both are Fegan clients... Murphy got $58 million two years ago, Dampier got $70 million).
Quote:
The average starting big men (4s and 5s) in the NBA make $7.3 million. Nene starts very close to that.... and there are indications he'll be above average. He's huge (6-11, 265) quick, and athletic. He was Denver's best player in training camp last year before going down in the first game... he was really coming on. And he's only 23.
Quote:
Given the uncertainty of Kenyon Martin, and the injury history of Marcus Camby, the Nuggets could not afford to let Nene slip away. Further, signing Nene takes a talented "big" off the market. In this game of supply and demand, talented "bigs" are in short supply, and this will only serve to stimulate interest in Martin in the marketplace. Given the calls the Nuggets have received today, it already has.
Keep in mind the Denver Post confirmed these are all Bearup's words. Not the writers.

Re: Nene email from Bearup...

Bearup IS a financial genius, otherwise he wouldn't be a financial advisor to a billionaire.

However, we should let Warkentein be full-time GM...or else pull in a proven one to run the team, we can't have all these leaders who don't want to get in trouble when a bad deal is made.

In other news, do you think the Nuggs brass has a website where they can go online and post their ideas from all over the world? That'd be SWEET to see!

Bearup: So, what do you guys think of the Nene deal?
StantheMan: He's expensive, but so are all these guys...
CoachK: He's big, quick, but he'd better not pull a KMart...I'll have to fine him and bench him in the finals if he's going to go that route.
Melo: Whoah...I get access to the thread and THIS is what happens behind the screens? Wow...I never knew...
CoachK: Go practice your free throws, Melo...your performance against LA was terrible!
Bearup: Melo just got a max contract.
StantheMan: He'd better pan out, or we'll all turn into "snitches."
Melo: That's just wrong, man...y'all going to keep KMart? He's the bomb!
CoachK: Hahahaha! You MUST be on crack...go practice your dribbling.
StantheMan: Kmart's value will go up eventually, right Bret? Bret? Bret?
Melo: Your boy must be away from the Gateway.
CoachK: I'm fining you 5,000 for not doing what I told you to do.
Melo: Bite me!
Bearup: Ok, I'm back, what'd I miss?
StantheMan: We're trading Melo...
Melo: What?
Bearup: Hey, good move...it's cheaper in the long run...
CoachK: I want a raise.
